In the blistering heat and in a long match due to stoppages, the South Wales Ironmen claimed a morale boosting and hard fought victory over Coventry at The Wern on Sunday afternoon. In a game which flowed from end to end and which seemed to have been lost at the end, victory was snatched from the jaws of defeat in the last minutes to put a win in the 2017 results list.

The Ironmen scored 12 points in each half, but in between Coventry scored 22 and appeared at 22-20 to have snatched the win, but a late Phillips try secured the win for the home side in the sunshine at Merthyr. Result 24-22.

Tries Roets 2, Carter, Phillips

Goals  Emannueli 3.

Coaching staff deserve great credit.

As do the Halifax Supporters Trust as they fund the reserve side who provided some hard-working,welcome additions.

The players switched off a little,or had lapses in concentration in the blistering heat, but the desire and team spirit shone through.

Amazing character after what has occurred both on and off the field.

Pleasure to be there,as it has been in the recent defeats, where despite their upset they have maintained their playing principles and discipline.

I hope the players turn up for the 2.30pm start at Wrexham on Sunday.( as per the Crusaders website and other notifications.)
