Jersey matchday thread

Scoring for fun

By WW
February 24 2017

Yorkshire Carnegie looks to set last week's debacle behind it as the club travel to Jersey to play the reds under the floodlights. What will the players' reaction be to the Pirates game?

Join us here to get up to date scores and insightful comment as the match progresses. Hopefully there will be commentary from BBC radio Jersey. A link will appear on here when we find one.

Once again utter rubbish. We are a poor team against good opposition. Have had too many dissapointments . Will never go and see them again. My money is being spent in future at wasps.
So dissapointed as have supported the club in its various guises since 1970. Never will it see my money in the turnstiles again

JDH. I do not know how long you have been a fan. My love was the old headingley and rounday which became the current proffessional club. Played for both and followed the proffessional sides through thick and thin. They worked, had a passion, which is missing from this side.
As a coach you do not mind if your side looses if you try. This current side has not got the determination to try and win

Both sides were fully committed tonight and the forward play was of an extraordinarily high standard from both teams. Jersey certainly got a few marginal decisions in their favour but Irish couldn't dominate the Jersey pack and Yorkies were never going to either. Poor discipline and a butchered overlap in the first half cost your lads tonight - you never win arguments with match officials - like mother-in-laws they are always right so your lads need to bite their tongues when they don't like a decision. Yorkies are not so far ahead of teams like Jersey that they can play a quarter of a game with 14 men. Best of luck in the play-offs lads I still think you will have a decent chance.

Don't kick it pick it up and GO FORWARD

You support your team through thick and thin whether they are winning or losing, I think the question we should be asking is 'should Redpath see us through to the end of the season?', he is a lame duck, we should let Jimmy and his team now take us through, Ranieri got the boot last night, maybe it's time to hand it over to the coaches that going to be in charge next year ?

Time for a change - after following this message board for some time we stick by our team through thick and thin however there comes a time when people are accountable do you not now think it's time for Redpath to go and allow Jimmy and his coaching team to take over and see this through to the end of the season, if we make it to the heavens of the premiership fantastic if not Jimmy has at least to the end of the season to decide which players he wants and which players he doesn't, & move the team to the direction he wants to go, instead of him following a lame duck 'Redpath'.

Personally been following the different versions of this team for 17 years. Nothing is new and I always expect the worst. We are going to be top 4 and should still end up 2nd. Agree regarding Redpath he should leave now and allow Jimmy and maybe someone fresh to come in and give a kick up the @rse to some of the players.

Agree with Sidestep...nothing against Brush especially...but we need clear direction to steady the ship...spell out a few home truths...and galvanise players ahead of the play Offs.

Irish have had some really close scrapes lately (a win by 1 pnt against Ealing?) and a few more tough games to come? There is a rebalancing process going on in the Championship due to fatigue and injuries etc...and moving into Spring conditions...all to be managed carefully...all to be played for?

We have a good team when playing well...and for the shirt? We are capable of pulling the double off if we have a TEAM that are constantly working for each other...and playing out of their skins.

Problems we have are:-Playing in wrong places...which Irish mostly avoid!....making costly unforgivable mistakes/penalties/send offs etc (Jersey)...gifting the ball to teams that play flat(like Pirates)....not mastering and countering the tight off-load that Jersey and esp Irish do really well...that constant shoulder support...that's what will cut through at Headingly on 5th if we don't deal with it?

Looking to see really good bounce back on 5th...to make sense of the cunning'tactical' defeat to Pirates and Reds????

Absolutely what CC said. Though I can imagine a few "What the bleep was that for ref?" Buzz looked mighty confused with what he was told a couple of times but you do have to button it.

There were positives and, while we didn't win it, it was such better than last week.

If I was to say never again, it'd been after last week and I'd still come to Jersey this weekend and missed the match. If I was that hacked off I'd passed on the weekend - we're paying on departure at hotel and only would've lost £100 on 2 return flights.

Just heard an interview with Redpath who said we were outstanding against Jersey and came out in the wrong side of the result due to a couple of questionable decisions including the Boyce yellow card. He sounded very upbeat and ready for the challenges to come. I just got the impression from some of the comments on here that we gave a poor performance so was he watching the same game?

Some/many/most of the comments from here from people who didn't go and, needs to be said, rarely turn up at HC. Yes if we have promotion ambitions we should be beating the likes of Pirates and Jersey. But then I've never said we're ready for the promised land.

Same here Gel. We just need to play the team in front of us and try to win (which we normally do). Look at CorporalCarrots post above - it was a close match, we perhaps ran out of "get out of jail" cards.
Interestingly, if you follow the "Rolling Maul" website (and I can well understand why you don't as it is extremely tedious), then you will see that many neutral posters predicted a Jersey win ahead of the game.
We were playing a side in form, at home, and probably on a heavy pitch (anyone help?).

Any complacency is hopefully blown away (and that includes posters on this board), we need to regroup, do our best against LI, and then regain our winning habit.

Rather than edit the above thread I will add this post.

We won away against London Scottish and one poster inferred that it was against "inferior" opposition. This was a side hell bent on making the play-off top four.
With London Welsh now out of the equation, there are a number of sides, some bolstered by loanees from London Irish and Premiership sides, busting a gut to get to the Play-Offs.

No side is an easy "inferior" opposition now.

As someone who didn't go to jersey and has only seen 2 home matches this season I have to agree with this. In all honesty I cant get too worked up with our form or results this season. I never thought we had any real prospect of promotion , I haven't been supporting as long as some on here (premiership era onwards for me) , I no longer get the leeds roller coaster feeling more a sense of deja vue. I have seen it all said and done before, the club lacks direction off the field until we get a strong (with cash) hand on the tiller I don't expect either real change or promotion.imo.

if we play good hard rugby , respect the fans an start to feel more like a rugby club that's enough for me at the minute. Total lack of ambition some will say but that how I feel.

We do lack quality in key areas which makes a massive difference.
A couple of real quality performers would lift the whole squad imo.

We definately need another 10 to support Seals, whom I suggest is a better option that Ford, even without the injury Joe clearly is carrying!

Joe's defence is rubbish, even non-existent and the backs and back row need to shift to unfamiliar positions while Joe scoots of to the wing to keep out of the way.

This simply isn't good enough and needs to be addressed, as it has most of the season.

Rant over! roll on the Irish.

Up the Yorkshire Carnegie TYKES !

The pitch at St Peter was in wonderful condition on Friday and didn't cut up at all but as anyone who has played on it knows it is narrow and there is a considerable slope running diagonally from the Pavilion to the airport corner. Steve Bodens knows the pitch really well and your lads obviously won the toss and elected to take advantage of the slope in the second half which is the option Jersey would usually take unless there was a strong wind. Your lads played some quality rugby on Friday and very narrowly lost a game against a side in form playing above themselves at home so for goodness sake get over it and support your team into the play offs. Next weekend against Irish is irrelevant - the key match up will come in May. Jersey still have an outside chance of 4th place and if we make it we will certainly be looking to give Irish a physical game before they play your lads in the final.

...except that if we do not beat the Exiles then we will be looking at a 3 game losing streak so it kind of gives the game some sort of relevance. But thanks for your advice anyway. (Sm111)
