Same again please.

The future

By ww
October 18 2017

Yorkshire Carnegie went down to Jersey for the opening round of the B&I cup and were beaten by a score of 32-3. We may well  be disappointed with the score but Jimmy Lowes made some bold decisions last Friday and they appear to have paid off......

Last week's team selection had us all scrambling for the academy page on the offy. J-Lo had had little choice other than select eight academy squad players for the trip to the Channel Islands. Despite the defeat we have, in effect, increased our squad by eight players. With all the injuries in the squad this was the perfect time to introduce the youngsters to first team rugby and J-Lo's gamble has done just that.

This week we entertain the Scottish Exiles at Ilkley. We lost at the RAG on the opening weekend of the season so there will be an element of "setting the record straight" when the Exiles turn out at Ilkley. The cup holds no interest for me so I would keep the same team that played in Jersey. The lads, having got a game in the first team under their belts, will only get better. Here is an opportunity for J-Lo to give our injured backs an additional weeks rest.I am confident that J-Lo will go with the kids again as the following week we entertain Bedford in the league and I think that he will want a win in that game more than in the cup this week.

That said I think that we will beat Scottish this weekend. It would be fitting if the kids, who are the future of the club, were instrumental in such a victory.

Unleash the puppies! (again)

Yeah, Ben is probably the best all round lock we have. Casson back again. If he could stay fit our backline would operate better me thinks. He might have to curb the express train tackling to prolong his game time. Pete gets another chance to impress at 10...... he is a talented footballer and will do a decent job but we need to get another flyhalf on loan for a bit please.
Ilkley was a decent trip out last season. Plenty of tweed to appreciate....
Wouldn't 3 to 4 more players make a huge difference to this squad.

I know this season is just about maintaining Championship status and we can't afford a big squad. But with an academy as good as ours, surely there's a young fly half who would benefit from the experience?

I guess that J-Lo has made the call that it is too big a step at present and could be demoralising.

I presume Stevie McColl has been practising his place kicking all week, as I do not recognise anyone else who can kick.

Hope Pistol Pete has a stormer and we discover his hitherto hidden talent as a 10.

Think you're probably right Almo

I just hope Pete doesn't get injured playing out of position in a game no one cares about.

I'm not a fan of loans but, if we've genuinely got no other 10s, then this is when they're justified

I see Chris Elder has now been withdrawn due to a hamstring injury. Possible a recurrence of the injury he sustained against Pirates?

Aye. Looked unlikely for much of the game with forward passes and knock-ons but came good in the last quarter. Decent effort in trying conditions. Bullough won't be thanking Chris Elder - bumped up to start but looked like he did a shoulder or collarbone early on.

If I had all the money I've spent on drink ..... I'd spend it on drink.

Sounds like a positive result in difficult circumstances, though the downside is Bullough's injury.
How did Pistol Pete go as captain and fly-half?

Pete was decent at 10 tbh. Controlled it well in@#$%&weather.
We were dominant in the contact area all game. Wilson had a great game as did Bainbridge. Lineout good in the wind and created buckles sneaky well worked score. Feel for Tom b, it didn't look good. Forsyth can butcher and opening that's for sure! Not sure I really rate him.
Casson looked good. We would be much improved with him at 12 each week and Pete at 13.
Game was stop start but entertaining. Scottish were poor.
I like Wolstenholme. Quick pass, pace. I would rather see him than elder at 9 that's for sure.
Some decent handling in the end made for some good tries.
Disappointed at the lack of tweed until I spotted a lad with a tweed coat and claret chinos.

Donny beat bristol too.

If it was the same one I saw he had the accent to go with it, and the turned-up collar finished the job.

He did make up for the short fall in numbers.
