Hopefully other front 5 to sort the set piece will follow. There isn't a position we dont need some quality in.

I follow all teams I played for results etc and like to keep up to date with ex players, but would be better served as a Monday paper

This is great news and following on from the meeting before the Bedford game, promises are being delivered on.

I think what's key is these are obviously Chris Stirling signings and I would bet my bottom dollar, they will be top notch and fit in with the ethos of the club.

Hopefully this means the cup games will be a watershed in the league this year. When we resume after them we will be stronger and move up the league, as mentioned it is key we build momentum into next season!

Good news for almo as Manawatu's main shirt sponsor Higgins is a civil engineering outfit.

If anyone is interested check out the Mitre 10 Cup website as there is a YouTube clip of highlights from recent Manawatu v Southlands match including a try from Antonio Kiri Kiri. Sprinkling of All Blacks about too.

Yeah great news this. Hopefully just the start. In the meeting they said they had done a lot of work in making sure the guys would fit in and visas were less of an issue.

Obviously we are desperate for a 10 and a flanker with pace to link up and get the ball away would be great.

I have to be honest here, and I am really worried that a NZ construction company will be ignorant of the purple underground ducts required in UK motorway construction. Not sure I can sleep.

Might just prove to be a motivator for the current squad too, time to step up and put in some good performances before they are the ones getting replaced.

Still, we have London Irish, London Scottish and London Welsh, now we could have Leeds Kiwis. We must be due another name change soon....

Lachlan is so far not a lucky name for us (it was a major factor in our last relegation from the Premiership, anyone who watched our substitute Welsh FH will probably agree). However, I think things have moved on, and we posters understand that unfortunately injuries happen, they are particularly nasty for the person involved and posting critical "injury-prone" or other comments does not help.

The real problem is usually lack of depth in the squad.

Currie looks like a good physical player. Looking forward to watching him.

The other lachlan was unfortunate with injuries but he was prior to him coming here. He also couldn't kick! The decisions around the flyhalves at that time I am convinced altered the course of this club downward.

I have faith stirling won't do the same.

I'm getting quite concerned now.

Donny aren't pulling any trees up this season either but they're holding Irish to a respectable scoreline at the moment.. We just seem to be so far off the pace it's untrue, it's not like we've just been on the wrong end of a couple of close scorelines.

We seem to be putting all our hopes in this influx of new players but it's notoriously difficult to make an effective team out of a squad who don't yet know each other, isn't that exactly what London Welsh tried? And we all know how that ended.

Seems to me we've severely underestimated the opposition. I really hope we can pull this around but worrying times.

I agree with you Leeming. If the players we are putting out on the pitch were playing to the limit of their capabilities I would be less worried, but they are not. They are trying hard (no shirking) but lots of mistakes and continual underperformance even allowing for our injuries.
I suspect that lack of confidence is a big factor and hopefully we can turn a corner and get better with the new arrivals, but it is certainly not nailed on.

Hi all

The current situation was always going to happen. The composition and depth of the current squad is a result of the recruitment and retention processes used over the past two seasons.

In order to rebuild with a solid foundation there was always going to be some pain and frustration. I can fully understand the level of disappointment and anger felt by our loyal longtime supporters but would ask you to hang in, as things will, positively, move forward.

The cup period will allow us to regroup and gel the new players, and there are plenty more to come. When you add to this the return of key players from injury the match-day team sheet will look completely different.

This is a very challenging period for all, staff, players and supporters all I ask of the supporters is to keep the faith.

Believe me when i say that the club will emerge from this stronger, with a solid base to grow from, and ready to push forward with some real force.

As my longtime mentor told me

Nobody said it would be easy!!

Gotta love a challenge

Thanks for posting 'CS'.

Welcome to the board! We're mostly grumpy old men (and women), but we're here because we care about our club. Sadly the number of active posters has dwindled in recent years and we can come over as negative at times, but there is a tremendous will to see Leeds/Yorkshire succeed and bring the crowds back to Headingley.

I thought that the content and tone gave a pretty strong indication of the identity of 'IK'. I, for one, am very happy that Chris is in place and confident that if anyone can turn this around, he can. His first post is the shot in the arm we needed to keep the faith in difficult times. His straightforward, decent and open management style deserves to bring success. It's a breath of fresh air TBH.

I look forward to a new team that collectively punches above its weight, not below. Like the team that beat my beloved Bath when I first came to Headingley many years ago.

As one of the doom mongers or miserable old gits that post on here on occasions, Gelbel, you know as well as I do that things at Headingley over recent years have been anything but hunky dory. There is no point in burying heads in sand and hoping that everything is ok. If things are not as they should be it is important to express opinions in the hope that things improve. There is a time to clap, and there are times to boo!

I'm delighted that Inside Knowledge has joined this forum, and sincerely hope that further posts will be forthcoming with inside knowledge, so that the supporters no longer feel that they are the mushrooms that are constantly being fed c++p. Genuine inside knowledge will have the capability of upping the moral of the support and will be welcome.

I for one hope it is a sign that thing are turning for the better and perhaps there is something to look forward to at Headingley.

Definite positivity from the club and delivering on things that have been discussed and promised!

Hopefully we can use the next few weeks after the Coventry game to bed these players into systems / styles etc and then when we pick up the league again!

Yes I know I'm being positive a lot, but I think it's a matter of time before things start to click and we move up the league. We are bottom but we are strengthening, not sure the teams above us are!

I love the academy updates etc. There is so much work happening on that front it's fantastic. There was a good tweet the other day from someone in the Leinster setup saying something like out of the 40 odd in the squad 30 or so went to school in the county. Guess that is what we are trying for eventually.

Lord knows they are needed currently!!

To "CS" Thank you for taking your time to give an update to ourselves the last boss for me who actually went above and beyond for this once great family club was Phil Davies.

For the people having a go at 'negativity' let me just say it's so blo0dy hard to be positive when you've been following a club since 2000 that has had more false dawns than I've had hot dinners!

Finally I hope we can get a win against Cov but I'm not too confident and this break in campaign coming up probably couldn't happen at a better time.

Best of luck to the team today. I bailed out of my season ticket and have not been down this season yet but will be returning from the Donny game onwards. Impressed with the intent. If not the results yet

I watched the recent All Blacks v Wallabies game (with the remainder of the NowTV day pass I bought to watch us v Cov).

I was really impressed by the skill, pace, power and dynamism on show. I think we've been lacking in all these areas and hope we can play a bit more like the ABs.

I'm not bothered that we're getting a bit Kiwi heavy. Quite the contrary. The attempt to put a team of Yorkshire born players together wasn't really working. Better to get a core of quality players from wherever and add local and academy players slowly into the mix.

The heavy reliance by Sarries on SA players in the early days of their revolution didn't do them any harm did it?

Like to see a huge Pacific Isalnd No.8, centre/wing next, please.

I think playing like the ABs might be stretching it....

We do lack some power and go forward so I am with you on the SSI 8 and centre. A winger would be nice too.

The excellent news continues, I note that Nic is English-qualified: this is a bonus as I know the club want to continue receiving the rfu money that is subject to a certain percentage of match time being by England-qualified players.

The cup games are going to be interesting as I am assuming that the new lads will get some game time. Chris Sterling has certainly delivered the re-inforcements. Now we have some time to assimilate a squad that can climb the league. Anyone think that we are favourites to get relegated?

On current form I'd say we're favourites for relegation; can't buy a win.

However, we seem have assembled a multi-national task force charged with getting us out of the @#$%&.

Gonna be interesting that's for sure.

In Stirlo we trust.

And a loan signing:

Greene King IPA Championship side Yorkshire Carnegie have captured rising star Jacob Umaga, 20, on loan from Gallagher Premiership side Wasps.
Umaga, who was born in Halifax and played his junior rugby with Old Brodleians before joining the Leicester Tigers Academy, is due to arrive with the club next week and could make his debut in Carnegie’s next game against Nottingham Rugby in the Championship Cup.
The fly half signed for the Wasps Academy in 2015 and has made seven senior appearances in black-and-gold, all in the Anglo-Welsh Cup and has scored four tries and kicked 12 points. He had an outstanding performance at fly-half in Wasps’ 50-28 win over Leicester Tigers last season, when he kicked five conversions and a try. He has also appeared on a dual-registration basis for National Two clubs Hinckley and Broadstreet during his time at Wasps.
The young player is the son of ex Rotherham and Samoan international player Mike Umaga and the nephew of former New Zealand captain Tana Umaga, who won 74 caps for the All Blacks. The Yorkshire-born player however has been part of the England pathway from an early age. He scored a memorable long-range try for England U18 against France before making his U20 debut in the 59-17 Six Nations win over France and last year helped the England U20s squad finish as runners-up in their World Cup campaign.
This year Umaga, who can play at inside centre and full back, has spent time playing in New Zealand where he helped Auckland to the Mitre 10 Cup title. He returns to Yorkshire to play for Carnegie on loan until, to continue his development in the Greene King IPA Championship.
Director of Rugby Chris Stirling said: “Jacob is one of the country’s most exciting young players and we are delighted that he will be joining the Yorkshire Carnegie squad. He is an extremely talented player and one I am sure Carnegie fans will enjoy watching. This signing is another huge boost for the club and a clear indication of our ambitions.
“I would like to thank Wasps for their help in arranging this loan deal with Jacob. I am sure he will make a big impact on the side and I am looking forward to seeing him represent the club.”
Wasps Academy Manager Jon Pendlebury said: “Jacob has been gaining valuable experience out in New Zealand since April in preparation to continue his senior rugby transition at Wasps.
“Selection at Wasps is tough and we try to use the Gallagher Premiership, Premiership Rugby Cup and Premiership Rugby Shield, as well as loan opportunities in the Championship and National Leagues, to give players necessary game time which is crucial to their development.
“Sending a young player out on loan has to fit the player and then both clubs so we are pleased that Jacob has this opportunity before returning back for the Premiership Shield fixtures in December.”

Unfortunately this article is contradictory in that our old player and coach Jon Pendlebury is quoted as saying that Jacob will return to Wasps in December. In that case, what's the point as we have no Greeene King Championship matches in the meatime?

[EDIT] I have contacted the club as asked them to clarify the length of the loan. Unless Inside-knowledge could help on here?

I have to say both CS and the board are delivering on these promises - I suspect we are seeing it a bit earlier than expected given the current situation but I'm certainly looking forward to seeing how they all gel together and hopefully when we get back to the league we continue on an upward trajectory!

I think the cup has come at the right time to allow these players to bed in, learn the calls etc

I was looking at the 1st few league games after the cup - Doncaster & Richmond away, with Pirates and Ealing at home - it's a shame those fixtures aren't the other way round as the Doncaster & Richmond fixtures feel like they are key.

I suspect though, if all these signings work, no one will be looking forward to playing us

I read into that that he'll be with us till December then back to Wasps for the Premiership Shield then back with us.

There'd be no point otherwise

Going with Leeming's interpretation I have added his name in italics.

Despite my prompting the club have not announced the length period of the loan, which implies to me that it is flexible and at Wasps' whim.

Nevertheless, the club are to be credited in getting this additional resource: we should remember that nearly all our rival teams have brought in high quality D/R players who have been, and will be, playing against us.

We have been on an austerity regime for some time now, offloading players like Stedman, Kirsty, asbo and Beech to lighten the salary load, so hopefully that money saved is now available for "the big push".

Seems reasonable to me that both sides agree a "come over and have a go for the remainder of the season" type approach. If we are successful then we go forward together, if it doesn't work out then these guys are in an English shop-window. We already know that Wasps have been sniffing around our signings.
