Morahan joins the Aussie Men’s Sevens in Sydney this week ahead of the HSBC Sydney 7s to re-start his time with the Australian Sevens program in a trial week with the aim of being selected in the squad that will go to Tokyo.

A former Vodafone Super Rugby champion with the Queensland Reds (2011), Morahan was also a part of the Australian Sevens team that won the silver medal at 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, having made his debut in Sevens in 2008.

Morahan has three Test caps for the Qantas Wallabies and is a former Western Force and Junior Wallabies representative.

Qantas Australian Men’s Sevens Head Coach, Tim Walsh said: “We’ve been in talks with Luke Morahan for a while and he has talked with great passion about playing for Australia again, especially at the Olympic Games.

“Luke is a great athlete with a smart Rugby brain and is well sorted to the versatility of Sevens Rugby.

“We’re getting him back into the squad this week to give him an opportunity to put his hand up again for the gold jersey and see what he can contribute on and off the field.

“Bristol have been very supportive of allowing Luke to step away and chase something that he really wants to do and we thank the club for making him available for this week.”

Qantas Australian Men’s Sevens squad member, Luke Morahan said: “Potentially representing my country again is something I’ve thought about for a while, so to be able to re-join the Aussie 7s is really exciting, especially ahead of their home tournament.

"This week is really about a fact finding mission to see if its going to potentially work out for both parties and I've been impressed with what I've seen from the group just today.

“It’s really going to the case of hitting the ground running with a lot to take in but I’m looking forward to getting into the hard work.”

I think this is really great, Luke taking the opportunity to chase a dream and Bristol encouraging it. There's another write up here which offers a little insight into Luke's thinking. Luke is a man I admire, very focused, a true professional and modest with it. The club gets some good press too ... e.g. "The Bears ..... have proved to be a highly aspirational club under coach Pat Lam"

Good luck to him! I would imagine he would be lethal on the 7's pitch.
