Our lineout.

That thing with many moving parts that we seem unable to co-ordinate properly, especially when under pressure. Even the lineout ball we win is more often than not of poor quality and not exactly what was planned.

I noticed yesterday that after a complicated run around dance lineout went wrong, at the next one we went back to schoolboy basics and won it. And won the ball well. So why not do this more often?

And has been suggested on another thread, why don't we look to develop Kerr who last season was our form hooker. Why do we persist with TPN and OTY? Are they that much better/stronger come scrum time maybe? Boris getting his say above having a decent lineout? A sign of the internal politics?

Hopefully young Mr Borthwick will be able to sort it out but he won't be the first one to have tried to do so. Our lineout has been carp for several seasons now. Just look how a decent, well drilled lineout serves the likes of Exeter.

And maybe we'd kick to touch more (rather than aimlessly kicking down the centre of the park) if we thought we stood a chance of pinching the odd opposition throw in as we did back in the day with the likes of Tom Croft?

In the last few weeks, some areas of are game are showing signs of improvement. Still not good enough and we still drop the ball too much and fall off too many tackles, but our rolling maul can look good when it gets set properly and some of our back play, especially with George at 10, is encouraging. But our kicking out of hand and our lineout are two things which should be fixable and should actually have been fixed ages ago.

Borthwick can't arrive soon enough. I just hope he isn't another false dawn and that he lives up to our expectations.

All line outs are a mess really, players daren't compete for the oppo's ball in case(god forbid) they touch someone in a contact sport. Ban lifting and get back to good old sharp elbowed competition for the ball and whilst I'm at it shoot any scrummies that can't put the ball down the middle of a scrum so there's proper competition in there as well.
