Good idea Barty.
TRP suggested at the weekend that both Earl and Malins to Bristol on loan are done but pressumably you want club conformation which we don't have. Didn't someone official say that there would be an announcement relatively shortly re where we were with next season?

Re: 2020/21 Saracens Men's Squad
Darraghgirl 24 February, 2020 17:25
duly stuck

Thanks DG, will do my best to update as soon as things happen.

Yeah Blackheath generally I wait for an announcement from either club, or sometimes somewhere like the BBC that generally don't deal in strong rumours. TRP are often a bit scattergun in their approach, they'll say 20 things and 10 of them will be right. Would agree that Earl & Malins loans are highly likely to be pretty much a done deal. Generally the rumours are based on fact, they may be at an advanced stage of negotiation.

do we need another section on here to say players publicly announced commitment???

Interesting they've now got Lewington and Crossdale as staying when their last report they were likely leavers. Sadly it's a story that will continue to be big earners for news for a while so I'll only be updating when things are confirmed by a club.

On loan yes. Although it is 99.9% that his contract with us won't be renewed

I've updated the list at the top with stories in various stages of reporting, from "its a done deal" to "they're looking at..."

In no particular order.

Haven't included statements of "I'm staying", for now this is just about who might go

Re this one:

Ben Spencer - RugbyPass reporting a permanent move to Bath however Mark McCall stating he is "a big part of our future"

Is that correct? In the context of the comment after the Saints match mentioning Ben and Nick, I had assumed he meant Ben Earl? But I didn't hear it so that is just based on what I read.

Our lock position next year ? Maybe I'm not keeping up with the player news, but ...

If Kruis is off to Japan, Maro is trying to get to Paris (if I was him I'd go. He's we world best lock !), Nick I. is out on loan at Saints; Big Willi is off to La Rochelle, and Hunter-Hill back to Edinburgh. That leaves the Kpoku twins and potentially Mike Rhodes to play lock.

I feel we may be a little short ...
Perhaps we could re-recruit and old warhorse like Dom Day or Big Jim to hold the fort for a year ? (Assumes we'll ever get started next year....)

I got the feeling reading Alex Sanderson's comments that C H-H is with us next year along with the Kpoku twins.

Read a few reports that Tom Casson will be joining from Yorkshire.

Played in the academy around 2010 before 5 seasons at Quins.

Taking Sanderson's points for now as putting a few on the staying list, some slightly more concrete departures (Spencer, Lamositele), and the saddest one, the possibility that Brad Barritt will decide to go

Cheers all. Fissler (i know, hugely reliable...) has doubled down on stating deals for Hooley, Sloan and Clarey are confirmed, in an article about Wiese wanting out of his move. Imagine he'll get his way, team ethos and all that, don't want someone there against his will!

What is it with these SA guys - first Van Rensburg at Sale and now this with Wiese (although is it official or just a rumour). Is it their Agent looking for a better deal or just them being fickle.

Re: 2020/21 Saracens Men's Squad
Barty II 09 May, 2020 10:57
Taking our Sarries-tinted spectacles off for a minute. One of South Africa's hot prospects secures a big move to develop his career at the English Champions, against the top teams in Europe, all set to kick on. Months later the goalposts have moved and he'd be playing his rugby in the second tier, against some part time teams with no European rugby. Most of the reasons he would have been coming here in the first place are gone. Can you really expect him not to be having second thoughts, and can you really grudge him wanting to back out and have a more 'appropriate' move?

Re: 2020/21 Saracens Men's Squad

Agree with that Barty. We've also benefited from something similar this season with Joel Kpoku backing out of his Northampton deal.

Admit I didn't even think of that, but you're absolutely right! Guess it would actually be quite fitting if Wiese signed for Saints, as much as it would annoy me.

Or maybe Wiese wants to back out as his value has gone up since he signed for us, I wouldn’t have a problem with that as we should only want players who want to be here.

On the plus side looks like Hunter-Hill is all but confirmed.
