Obviously trust the coaches etc, etc but Maitland is the sort of player I feel the club should be moving on from. All the best to him but I'd have hoped to see Academy players like Segun and Crossdale (if he's still staying?) backed over the coming season.

Barty II 09 July, 2020 17:03
Think you're still highly likely to see that OM. With Williams, Gallagher, Barritt leaving, and Lozowski, Tompkins, Malins and probably Goode off on loan, I'd expect to find Daly at 13 more often when he plays which opens up space for either one of Segun and Crossdale. A regular back 3 of Maitland, Lewington, Segun could happen?

Think the shambles of the reduced salary cap rules etc slightly moved the goalposts - while I'd expect everyone's views to stay the same it does mean some doubt creeping in! Glad Jamie's signed a 3 year deal. Awful lot of the squad signing to 2022 so that could be a really busy season of contract churn so good there's a few going beyond that

As professionals, with so much up in the air, it's a really hard call. What if we don't bounce straight back up? But the security of a 3 year deal means you're going to eat for 3 years. Seeing leaders like Jamie re-sign (that's a clumsy phrase, wait til a drunk Daily Fail "journo" reports Maro has resigned in disgust at Series kidnapping babies to sell to Dictators so cheat the salary cap..) like this helps

Club has announced Calum Clark re-signed for the 2020-21 season. One to update on this fantastically helpful list above.

Still no news yet about Rhodes, Mako, Maro, Christie, Munday or Watson - or perhaps if Fazís contract has been extended.

Re: 2020/21 Saracens Men's Squad (Full list in first post)
Dolph42 13 July, 2020 13:35
Clark is a good re-sign and just the kind of player who will shine in the Champ. Mako/Maro/Faz will all stay and are currently training. Rhodes got himself fit just as lockdown came and would be another excellent signing for 1 or 2 years. Munday announced he's leaving (presumably to Loughborough). Can't see Christie or Watson leaving and they'd both do well in the Champ too.

Agree about Clark, who I rate - very good pro, always gets the job done - and Rhodes who Iíd love to see stay.

Fantastic news but I am slightly confused. With all the other announcements bar mako there was a clearly described new contract but not here, merely commited his future. To me this reads more as he is honouring his original contract despite our relegation rather than signing a new contract. All the media sites, sky etc., are saying he has signed a new contract but there is nothing in the official release to suggest that.

There have been quite a few of the announcements without contract length details, I don't think it's significant tbh, they might just want to keep it private.

Barty II 17 July, 2020 08:35
Yeah a few of the announcements have mentioned 'long term future' in the same sentence as 2022 or 2023 so doesn't necessarily mean a 5 year deal. His original contract was to 2022 so at the very least he (and Mako) has signed revised terms on the same length deal.

Loosehead prop Eroni Mawi appears to still be with the squad. Signed in February 2020. Pretty much under the radar. The club has pointedly never confirmed him as anything other than a short-term signing despite reports in Fiji of a two-year deal.

A couple of squad changes from the junior ranks. Ealing Academy (with the highly rated Alex Shaw casting their net) have signed up winger Luke Trigg and centre Brandon Jackson from our Under 18s. Jackson was on the bench once or twice for the Storm side pre-lockdown and has also received caps for the national U18s. Shaw has been one of the best in the country for spotting talent in his RugbyPass columns, an endorsement from him is usually a sign!
