I can’t imagine him being any better than Stooke who he may well replace.

I can't see it being another second row if we've already signed Spencer, must be a centre or wing.
Our pack is already one of the strongest in the premiership, just that we've missed 2-3 first choice players in our tight 5 for over a year.
Malco didn’t say it was Spencer but had speculated that it could be. Assume it would be based on Atwood and Stooke long term plans.
It was mentioned above that it is a forward.

No but he did say we were signing an English lock and Wilshd said it was a marquee signing. You can't make a new signing a marquee player if they are already in the premiership and I can't think of any English locks playing outside the premiership, let alone one with a ton of caps.

I had assumed that they were different targets.
'a journalist recently told me that we are chasing after an EQP lock who is well known and highly regarded in the club.'
I assume that it depends on Attwood and Stooke in particular.
It will all become clear fairly soon I'm sure...

Anyone claiming we've put in multiple excellent performances this season or, indeed last, has been watching someone else imo.

Also, Quade Cooper being told by Reds that he is surplus to requirements... Would be a great fit at 12 if Tapuai was to move on!

Eeeek - no thanks!! We need some gritty hard nosed leaders not some mercurial talent here for the (big pile of) cash because he keeps getting left out of other teams.

From my perspective saying that losing quite badly to Exeter away (LBP accepted) is OK because they are the current champions is a bit defeatist. When Bruce bought Bath, Exeter were still in the Championship.

Paul Eddison - English journo living in France - has tweeted to say that we could be about to have 2 Frenchmen arrive. Colomiers prop Victor Delmas and Toulouse forwards coach Pierre-Henry Broncan.
Don't know much about either to be honest! Think it's been taken from Midi, so read into that what you like!

Quote:According to the Ultimate Rugby website, a new salary cap in the Top 14 could see Toulon lose the services of Vermeulen, South African prop Marcel van der Merwe as well as New Zealand centre Ma'a Nonu.

What i was hoping for, employing a former AB and a guy, who although he hadn't won anything at the Crusdaers (with the likes on Carter, McCaw, Reid, Thorn, Franks (both), Crockett, Dagg, Whitelock (x3), Slade, SBW, Romano, Crotty, Todd, Moody, Taylor (Codie)) they did come close twice. I was hoping for an evolution of an effective style.
Now, i don't know enough about rugby to know why that hasn't happened but what i do know is, i haven't read a coherent explanation of that here either.

Well, i am new to this so you may well be right.
I do look at Ackermann though and it's quite obvious the difference in playing style.
Have to wait to see if they actually improve the results over the year.
With TB though, what's got better?

Specifically improved (for me):
* Team morale
* Lineout
* Restarts
* Team defence

Throw the chequebook at Ma'a Nonu.

Forget the chequebook, he needs a pension book.
Sonny Bill would be a more likely target.

To be honest when I said marquee I just assume it will be because of the caliber of player not the logistics / accounting bit.

Ben Te'o? Lots of rumours last summer. Would be a substantial cap impact.

Bit of a gamble with his injury record.

Quote:There are others I could mention but I make no apology for adding Banahan's name to that list. Never the fastest, nimblest, most skillful but ,seriously, look at his contributions in all kinds of ways. Anyone who watches carefully (and you won't pick this up on TV) will notice the amount of quiet decision making throughout a match at important moments, never mind those physical moments where he still frequently nails a situation. If the club didn't make an effort to keep him I might be tempted to stay at home in London and watch Rosalyn Park instead.!

What I hope we do not do though is throw a load of money at Ben Te'o as a result! Is it only me who is not a fan or desperate for him to come to the Rec?
Quote:BathBurger
Have to say Te'o always seemed to add a bit more than crash ball. He offloads often which results in quick, broken play which is where Bath score a lot of their tries. However his work rate off the ball can be question, even then though his defensive positioning and effectiveness is pretty good from what I've seen. I remember he closed out a 3 on 1 in his last game before injury which takes some doing!
Also would he not be a marquee player? I believe he's in around 300k at Worcester. Could be wrong.
Quote:hasta
There are subtleties between the two marquee players but fundamentally you cannot be a marquee if you were playing for another premiership team the season before.

Cant be Teo though as the rumour is that its a forward "with a tonne of caps"

I have just had a thought but wasn't Luke Romano rumoured earlier in the year as a possible option? He is 31 or so and is unlikely to make the next ABs World Cup squad given the competition from Tuipolotu and the Barrett second row being much younger and up and coming.
Perhaps he is back on the market and interested? (This is where someone will post an article to him being signed until 2020 or something...)
As for the Te'o one - I do think we can find a good player who's a 12 and is physical but not a smash em up the middle player like Jamie Roberts or Te'o. I have always been a fan of Francis Saili and he was excellent at the Blues in NZ and at Munster but seems to have gone quiet at Quins - is this injury or form related??

I broke the Romero story after being tipped off by a journalist mate in New Zealand. The trail went cold when Romero was unexpectedly called back into the All Blacks squad. With the international season closing it’s quite possible it could be back on for next season, I’ll check my source.

If we are looking at Worcester centres surely its Mills we want; young and English, more of a second play maker than a crashball specialist but would offer more than a thirty plus Teo who has barely played in the premiership?

Thanks Malco. Much appreciated.
Would be a good one if true as he is definitely in the big lump mould of a second row - is 31 so for a front five forward that's pretty much peak and for a couple of years could really teach the younger guys like Ewels and Stooke a few decent tricks I am sure whilst still offering plenty on the pitch!
Quote:by
Surely we don't need a young guy with potential coming into the squad, we need someone who is going to come in and immediately add value to the team, leading the young and inexperienced guys we've already got in the midfield: Clark, Max Wright, Tom de Glanville.

It was the Rugby paper I think. They are welcome to him, he plays about 1 in 10 games.

He's played in 9 out of 15 this year.

Not exactly a transfer but Charles is on his way back according to the Waspies site

Tapaui and Auterac to Quins all look certain now.
Quote:Loiner
Going back to the original post. Even with a couple resigning and a new prop and Banners, Auterac and Taps leaving there’s still ten more out of contract to decide on. Plus s couple of new signings hopefully. Lots and lots to do, can’t under estimate how much.

For once I agree with you Matt. Like other Prem. Clubs, we should look to recruit young talent from the Championship and the other leagues and develop them which no doubt would be much cheaper and probably develop more team spirit and loyalty for giving them a chance.

Are any of them actually any good though?
