The only difference with me is Essex for Hampshire & we are playing each other on Friday!
I am surprised at the number on here who follow American teams as I have rarely come across anyone previously in the UK.

I see that Ealing has released Joe Munro, a big (6’5”) lump who plays 12 and 13, aged 28. He was in the Green King team of the year last year and the little that I have seen of him looks a good player. Could do worse than him as a solid squad player over the season would have thought, given our cap constraints and need in those positions?

I say released - not playing for them next year (it doesn't say who instigated it). A few of their guys have moved up to Prem teams, they are not a shabby side. Besides which, I'm not talking about him being first choice on the teamsheet, but we can't have 45 international stars. I'm sure he would be able to do a job in the AW, little euro cup etc we can't play Jamie Roberts in 30 games next season.

Bath, Portsmouth and the Packers.

Pompey have flirted with the playoffs but thats the only highlight this season

Indecently, anyone moaning about Bruces stewardship of the club should have a look at Pompey's recent history (before the fans took over) - Bruce is a saint compared to some of the people who get involved with club ownership

Agree entirely. Given how small a squad we have, and the number of quality players in all positions, I see no harm at all looking in lower leagues for solid squad players, some gems or those who need a bit of polishing. There are other teams in the league who have done extremely good jobs at this, I see no shame in it at all. Given how many players we have on huge salaries who I believe we need to move on, this is just the right route to take IMO.

OK then. Given that we are letting go Tapuai, Banners, Hurrell (gone), James Wilson?, Lewis all who play 12 and have Roberts and Willison coming in, I think that we could do with squad support in the centres and that bloke seemed to fit the bill.

I make it fewer than 40 in the first team squad for next season based on the sticky (i made it that we are losing 12?) - 34 of the current players and maybe half a dozen to come in? Bayliss, maybe Nixon and Atkins to be promoted from the Academy?

I don't think Foden would be a bad player to have in the squad but I suppose its all down to what he wants both in terms of money and playing time. It appears to me that versatility is what you need in a squad these days with the increasing number of injuries.

Disagree cb2 Ben Foden was outstanding and England's number one full back until he injured himself if I remember correctly at The Ref. A big part of an England team who were tearing teams apart with their back play.

I don't think he ever regained that form

Agree we desperately need a further coach - however as it has shown and I echo TB and coaches comments - those last two performances were borne out of being able to field a team with the same combination in vital roles i.e. 6,7,8,9,10 access for the past 4 games.

I think the last two performances showed that 1. The team is not bad (lacking a real strong ball carrier(Grunter)). and 2. The coaches it would have appeared have been vindicated in their comments in relation to forming combinations.

I would add personally TB has been a true example of professionalism and a person who truly understands and appreciates the game and the pitfalls of a collision sport - Not once even when there were those calling for his head and all the problems going on behind the scenes and I repeat not ONCE did he play the "we have so many injuries card."

Bar Rob Baxter how many other coaches would have held off all season - I was going to add Mark McCall to the list but I recall him lamenting about unavailable and injured players when Sarries were going through a sticky patch.

He only mentioned it on the odd occasion & I agree that Baxter & MacCall have the same attitude. The fact is that all the players in the the squad should be capable on inter-changing & slotting in seamlessly. The main problem when there are so many players away is the effect on training & over playing certain players rather than missing star players imho

Well I'm not DOR and therefore I can say it.
Given just half the injuries we have had this year we would have made the top 4.
That in my mind and in mho is not an excuse, but a fact.
Surely on the injury front things will be better next season ? and with the squad now in place we can get to where this club belongs.

My problem is that irrespective of injuries, we've played such ugly rugby based on a premeditated game plan of 'You have to ball and run it back at us. If you make a mistake, we'll capitalise on it'.

When you have the likes of Faletau / Dunn / Taps / JJ / Watson in your team, such tactics are criminal.

I saw Tom Ellis in Taka Taka on Sunday evening. He's a very polite young man and was heading home early from a night out as said he doesn't really drink.

Was chatting his injury and the end of season etc. James Wilson came up as he scored a couple of tries obviously on Saturday. Ellis seemed to be of the belief that there are talks to keep him at the club given his versatility and how well he has settled in with the rest of the squad.

I personally think he would be a very good signing for these exact reasons, not to mention the fact that as an experienced guy who can play well at 10/12/13/15 he has a lot to offer to younger members coming through the team. At 34 (not that he looks it) he doesn't appear to be slowing down so if he can be kept at a decent price then a good idea!

Oh nice wild speculation, hasta. I wouldn't mind ROG. He's certainly learning his trade in the right way.

I'll have a go too... Shaun Berne.

To me it makes sense to keep Wilson 100%. Based on Blackadder's comments re. having a distributor at 12 it does make you wonder why we have decided to bring in Jamie Roberts?

For me based on those comments we are more likely to see Wilson continue or Willison starting at 12 next year than Roberts if that is what we have been working towards all year?

ROG would hopefully improve the tactical kicking.

I still think it’s useful to have the options of Roberts and Wilson at 12. I have really been impressed with Wilson since he joined and hope Bath can retain him. But I also think there are those winter months, where you just need a bit of trucking up the middle, rather than distribution, which is great on dry game days.

Don't forget his value as 3rd choice 10 and kicker.

Didn't think that it was worth a thread of its own, but I see that Adam Hastings has been called up for the Scottish summer tour of US and Argentina with Finn Russell out. Should be interesting, well done to the lad.

Wilson will supply all the versatility that Banners did, just +1 Fly Half +1 Full Back and -2 Wingers. If we do have +Cokanasiga +Vuna -Banners -Williams, this should offset it. It's just moving versatility from one area to another. I'm thinking McConnochie can play 11, 13, 14 & 15 too. Lots of options. Wilson, Willison and Roberts to each offer something different at 12, same goes for Clark and JJ. Vary it based on the opposition, weather conditions or to close out/spice up games.

I know Banners did play a game at Full Back, but it wasn't his best position for us this season.

Haven't watched too much of the Pro14 sides this year outside of Champions Cup and so not sure how he has been getting on but congratulations Adam either way!

Good for him and for Scottish rugby to build up some depth behind Finn Russell for those days when the spectacular goes the other way!

I'm sure Wilson could transition into coaching, how often do you have players who played almost every position in the backline to a high standard. I'd love to see him made part of Bath's long term plan.

Also wasn't Dwayne Peel mentioned as the rumoured new attack coach, based on some inside knowledge that they are coming from an Irish club.

SW mentioned the rumour that it was someone from over the Irish sea. I totally speculated, based on no insider knowledge whatsoever, that Dwain Peel would fit that bill. No rumour, just total speculation as he knows the area (from his Bris days), is an attack coach, works for a province with some management issues - nothing more than my imagination I'm afraid.

The final piece of the puzzle - they might as well announce it now...

"Getting those distribution skills into to the 12 channel is something we've been working all season"

Great, so why sign Roberts?

Wet weather player (mentioned by others), a plan B for a Friday night in January (other wet months are available).

If they had been working on it all season it begs the question at to why did we fail so abysmally to employ it until the very end of the season. The brilliance in the last two games mustn’t completely eclipse the continual failings over to preceding 8 months!
