If we could just sign a scrum half as good as Albie Mathewson. Thought he was tremendous these last two matches- sharp, crisp pass, gas, and a hell of an eye for a gap.

Cook played well yesterday I thought. Fast and accurate passing as well as his physical threat. Fairly low on our current list of priorities I would have thought? Anyone know how young Max and Homer are getting on at their respective loan clubs?

Totally unfair based on this season, Cook has been very good for the vast majority of games this season

Agree T&M. Most have his games have been good (some excellent) albeit with the odd moment of madness.

I always thought Cook's strength was his kicking. I'd prefer we kick less but can't fault his kicking.

What concerns me is his speed of delivery (especially as the game wears on) and his tendency to 'direct' rather than play what's in front of him.

I think his starts ahead of Kahn has been justified in the most part.

T&M BFF seems to worry coaches and affect selection, I suspect that is why Devoto has dropped out of contention with EJ. Adam Hastings had a high BFF as well.

There are those with significantly high BFFs whose form still warrants their selection. Sinkler and Marler are two examples.

I'm not sure that's true either. I can think of plenty of players that can do the brilliance without the brain farts. Obviously there are players that don't make so many mistakes and don't do that much brilliant either. Then there's those like Chris.

That said, as CC and OD are two that I recall being discussed as having brain farts, I don't really recall them doing that much that was completely brilliant? I mean in the way that Watson did this weekend. They have moments when I think "that was nicely done".

Much as I loved watching Watson score, I'm not sure that it was 'brilliant' - in fact he said that his team-mates have been ribbing him because it was 'under 11's rugby' (i.e. give it to the fast kid and let him run sideways around everyone). He is some athlete, for sure. if you get the chance to watch the highlights, take a look at how Josua Tuisova just gives up and almost walks when Watson is running across - he is the total opposite of Aled Brew who chased everything.

I think that's a little harsh - especially for the first try - he takes the scissor from JJ and explodes at a weak shoulder. For the second try he basically sees Tuisova switch off for a millisecond - Tuisova absolutely gives up for sure, but after he's been gassed when back on his heels. Watson sees the opportunity and takes it, he's not initially just going to try and run around someone.

Any more examples? For me that doesn't put him in the league of people who can do magic but occasionally have a brain fart.

He's still in the looks promising but makes stupid decisions category.

Maybe Watson was a bad example. It was just an example something memorable, and very recent, that you might forgive the odd mindless moment (not that I think Watson has them, but that's sort of the point).

Savea is an interesting one from a recruitment point of view. He’s not really “reigniting his career” so would probably demand a pretty big salary. But he also hasn’t really played at “superstar salary level” for a couple of years either.

Blackadder says that AWJ won't be coming to Bath next season and they are looking to retain the guys we've currently got with Philips and Douglas as the only two who haven't signed a deal yet.

Attwood is going to feel like a new signing by the time he is back, he trained this week but still "4 to 5 weeks" until hes ready.

Yes his conversion from back to second row (waving at Ellis going the other way) has taken a bit of time but it appears that he is now starting to reap the rewards and break into the team more frequently. Definitely one worth keeping IMO.

I'd definitely keep Lahiff because he can cover both sides, Thomas and KPN because he's a bath boy through and through and played very well at the start of the season. Perinese we should make the most of this season for sure and thank him very much for his classy service. Then, for me, knight deserves to get game time at a different club and maybe Nixon should go out on loan enabling us some scope to scout a new tighthead to really push our other boys. TH is a key position and I'd like to feel comfortable with our resources. With Nixon out on loan that should be 4 capable TH in the ranks with one more who we can pull back should circumstances become desperate.

I don’t know if it’s possible but I do think we need 4 players in these attritional positions. You just know a few will be injured at any one time & they need to be rotated as much as possibe. With 3 we are 50% likely to be overplaying.

Isn't Nixon in the academy and considered a LH prop? either way I wouldn't count him.

If AP wanted to do another season, I'd love to see him stay but there isn't many TH props running around professionally older than 35.

Nixon is in the academy but regarded as ‘equally Comfortable on either side of the scrum’ according to the press release when he just went out on loan. I think that by next year he should be able to hold his own in A league and Aw games for example as 4th/5th cover?

I would love to sign Chris Pennell. Think he is class still. If but for injury and a more attacking Eng coach / 'trendy' club he would have had a good handful of caps. Still rate him.

Khan had been great for us in the last few years, he's been at best patchy this year, but that's hardly a surprise given his age. Our other 9s are making up the numbers. For everything cook does well, and the are many things, he is questionable in another area. I'm not taking about Homer here.

I'm not sure chudley is the answer, but to say we've a strong set of scrum halves just seems bonkers to me.

I do think Khans' form has dipped since his contract extension was agreed, but he did set a high standard when he arrived just as Stringer did when he started with us. Kahn needs to get back to fast service from the ruck rather than marshalling troops to protect his box kick or make a one out play. I think Kahn still has it and I would like to see more of it in 2018...

I'd like to see a change in playing style rather than personnel, but chudley is fantastic and a spontaneous scrum half with enough pace and guile to try things. A good signing I think, but an attack coach is top priority for me. We need a switch towards ball retention challenging at rucks, chudley's played for a team that do both excellently - surely not a bad signing!

Given we're desperately short of centres, having a grand total of 3, one of whom is often with England, seems like a reasonable if not electrifying option.

He’s a very solid, dependable Centre. Nothing flashy but does the basics very well. Watch the Try of the Week contender, this week, where he puts our 7 away for a try. Rarely injured and we’d be very sad to see him go. Just one of those workhorses who’s good play goes largely unnoticed.

As we currently have Teo and Olivier both injured I cannot fathom why we’d let him leave early.

Wuss fan in peace.....

Not normally one to post on other forums however with Wuss players being linked with other clubs, I’m interested to get different views.

Regarding Jackson though, one word to describe him is consistent. Great ball carrier not afraid to commit to the tackle and surprisingly fairly injury free. Really want to keep him at Sixways.

Jackson Willison for me is a 12 as well more than a 13. When he defends at 13 I think he is a bit of a liability from set pieces but is a very dependable option at 12 in terms of attack and defence. Hope he's not a big money signing and more of a squad player though really as was hoping for a little bit more excitement than that given we are reported to be losing Banners and potentially Taps?

Wasn't the latest on Taps that he is staying? Or did I hallucinate this after too much festive cheese?

Last mention in the Chron was him wanting to negotiate an extension and being happy here.

So we could have 2 Wilsons, a Watson and now a Willison on the pitch. This is not going to help BBC's radio commentary team!

Rumour is that we are also after these two:

The team is to be rebranded the Bath Wilsons, presumably all Tarquins idea.

Wuss fan here. More than a strong rumour Jackson has re-signed with Wuss. Hopefully confirmed very soon.

Wuss fan in peace. The noises coming out of warriors from people who work at the club is that not only is Jackson Willison staying for the season, but he has indeed signed up for next term. Whether this is posturing I don’t know but they’re not usually wrong. Interesting to see what happens.

I imagine this is correct. Especially given the injuries at centre you have, not to mention the fact you appear to be heading towards comfortable safety in the league so there need not be any exodus of players.

Unfortunate for us, we really need solid, consistent, injury free players.

Is Max Wright injured or out on loan? It seems slightly odd that we paid Leeds for their release and then haven't played either of them (except in A league)?

[yorkshirecarnegie.com]

Has anyone seen Max Wright play? I note that he is 21 in a few months (9 months younger than Joe Marchant), is he still not able to fill a centre bench spot if needed or is he still too green?
