Well done Tom Dunn(even if RFU think he plays for Chiefs!) and Will Stuart.

Obano unlucky - thought Marler might "retire" again.

Bath lads (despite Dunny being a chief!).

Tom Dunn (Exeter Chiefs, uncapped errrr)
Charlie Ewels (Bath Rugby, 12 caps)
Will Stuart (Bath Rugby, uncapped)
Sam Underhill (Bath Rugby, 15 caps)
Jonathan Joseph (Bath Rugby, 47 caps)
Anthony Watson (Bath Rugby, 42 caps)

Brilliant news for the Bath boys. Well done to Will Stuart and very unlucky Beno I thought.

You'd think he could drop a lock for an additional no. 8

BathMatt53
BathMatt53
20 January, 2020 12:27
Seems very odd that there isn't one single no. 8 in the whole country that is better than a non-8 filling in. Earl is good, but isn't he just a less experienced Sam Simmons in the way that he plays - basically a stocky back in the forwards? Pretty amazed that Moon is in over Exeters Hill at lock. Have to say I let out a sigh of resignation when I saw Ben Youngs in there...

I think that Jack Nowell is a very very good player but lacks one thing that a truly top class international winger needs, genuine PACE. I cannot see him beating many other wingers in a footrace to the line or would he go the distance on an intercept? It would not make me unhappy if he was called up at a later date as he has many qualities, but am happier to see a speedster on the wing.
Really pleased for our lads to get recognition in what has not been so far, a stellar season!

Ordinarily I'd be pi$$ed off that we lose so many players to England, but with relegation totally out of the question now I'm not that bothered either way. Never that interested in the 6N, will watch some of the games if I'm not playing golf.

Just hope England take a little more care with player welfare and they don't break Bath players again. Personally I'd still like to see the Bath squad balanced better with fewer England qualified players and more from the southern hemisphere.

Ewels at #8? Is my memory correct he played there for us in a HC game a few years ago when we were short? Did a v good job IIRC. Really pleased for Stuart he has had an outstanding start to this season.

Note to EJ - don't break anyone and send them back to play club rugby if not in the matchday 23...

That probably explains your apparent disinterest in the 6N, OB, you are obviously far too young.

After Christmas all I looked forward to was the possibility of England beating Wales in the 5N and usually being disappointed. I think the number of international games with all shown live on television has devalued many tournaments and made a lot of games that years ago would be anticipated for weeks become just another game. Mind you, if Bath win another piece of silverware in my lifetime that would be special.

Not picking a specialist 8 anywhere in the squad is insane. If nothing else, your "3 flanker amigos" back row is going to need something traditional to train against.

Thinking about it some more, we have a potential 3 flanker back row which implies a very fast game with lots of mistakes and breakdowns. Who are we playing in the first match of the 6N? Gulp, France! What could possibly go wrong?

The record aggregate score in a international rugby match is 145-17. I wonder what the spread bet odds on beating that would be?

... IMHO, of course.

Does that mean he has to follow return to playing protocol and out for a bit?

If not, no idea why he wasnít called up as heís had a great season.

Typical we play Bris again during the 6 Nations. When we lose 7 and they lose 0,

Tiggers will have a decent front row and he could get mullered if Walker can't last full 80

Back rows are the one area where you can experiment, you don't need an open side, a blind side, and a No 8, its convention so perhaps its deliberate. France's pack is like the SA pack perhaps Eddie wants to see if big packs can be made obsolete by speed. Its worth a try even if it is risky.
