Yep £2m a year is big but who is likely to want to sponsor them again. This is bigger than relegation, I think they will have to disband and start afresh!

The only surprise is it has taken them so long.
When is it effective? Immediately or at the end of the existing deal?

End of this season is being reported (one year early). Stadium naming rights reportedly still up in the air

If it weren't for the fact that Wray literally has more money than he can spend and is Sarries thru and thru i'd agree with you. Sadly, they will just walk thru this like they do everything else.

Do you really think so? He doesn’t like going to matches any more. Frankly he may have money to burn but I think he may think enough is enough! His relationship with the other owners is very strained and CVC will have a massive voice in proceedings.

Would love it if Allianz put that money into sponsoring the Championship-would make up much of the supposed shortfall mentioned in the other thread. Appalling that the Championship clubs seem to have been abandoned if the article is true, and so bloody typical that those with money do everything they can to keep it rather than see the value of sharing their wealth.

Surely "Barratt Developments" might be interested in a "Specsavers" sort of way? Couldn't they also use some of the money from Itoje's image rights and name the stadium after him?

Cheers Matt and WT. Blowing in the wind no doubt but decided to email Allianz with the idea. You can but try!

You do have to wonder how long Wray will want to stay.

Funding 50% of the losses alongside Remgro and being lauded as the Saint of English club rugby was probably enjoyable but funding 100% of growing losses whilst being lambasted as a cheat is probably less fun!

Agree this is a big deal but not only for Saracens but for rugby in general. Alliance will be driven solely by their own best interests and they may decide the money can be better invested in another sport or art or culture.

I agree entirely with the sentiment but the problem is that with the Cheats being in the Championship next season it could be perceived that Allianz are continuing their support albeit indirectly.

Hypothetical anyway because it's a fanciful idea but let's face it, Sarries will stroll that league next season, and the RFU pulling the rug from under the Championship clubs only widens the financial gap. If, by some miracle, Allianz did step in it wouldn't aid Sarries.

SimonG19

But my point is that it would still link Allianz with the Cheats next season which wouldn't do the former any PR favours.

From the BBC - England's Billy Vunipola, Alex Goode and Nick Isiekwe, Scotland back Sean Maitland and prop Josh Ibuanokpe were reportedly spotted having takeaway coffees together in St Albans.

Sorries still winning the PR battle I see

It shouldn't be his choice...should have been banned from the game along with other key protaganists.

Thanks BoB but i think the comment applies to the general direction of the thread because there are other posts that link money and Saracens with Wray....and why wouldn't you because they are entitely synonymous.

Is it specific to Salaries? The behaviour described sounds depressingly like every rugby club I've ever known.

Not sure being hit so hard with a fire extinguisher wearing metal helmet that results in concussion was part of our after game fun. Fizz Buzz could be pretty scary though!

Loads of vids going around with that one SW. Wear the helmet and get hit by loads of stuff, like an empty beer keg. Don’t try them at home kids.

What's the matter with good old fashioned drinking games like fizzbuzz, boat racing, yard of ale et Al? Some times it felt like you were drowning in beer or the equivalent of water boarding. Most drinking games which included singing with actions I got involved with, no one was capable of lifting a fire extinguisher let alone raising it to hit someone on the head!

Must give the Old Prostates RFC a call a see what the up to date games are these days.

Whatever floats your boat Matt. I seem to recall an episode on tour in Cork, being thrown naked, apart from my club tie of course, from a coach about a mile from our hotel in the centre of town at about 2.00am. The concierge at the hotel didn't bat an eyelid and just let me into my room where the bed had been handily placed on end against the wall.

Still got up for big breakfast and had really good game next day. Cannot remember much more about the evening though.

Touring Jersey is great, as long as you remember that every other resident seems to be a Special Constable. I must say, the desk Sergeant was very helpful and expedited the bail arrangements for the 5 miscreants I had to extract from St Helier clink , and take them back to the various pubs they'd acquired the toilet seats from that they were wearing around their necks when apprehended, to negotiate an equitable remedy.
No extinguishers involved as far as I recall.

I'll stay quiet about the various incidents including Morely RFC at Les Quennevais R.F.C club house involving candles and toilet roll clenched between the buttocks.
