Just taking into account my workplace, there are about 20 people I talk to that have an interest in international rugby when it comes around. None of them are bothered about the Prem, never mind the Champ and below.
It is hard to answer this question. Young girls and guys 14 -15 are so enthusiastic in playing but 15 is reached, nowadays, and thought of GCSE and A levels are paramount, injuries etc from game time take there toll too. (These notes are only from anecdotal comments rather than any specific research).
As we know not all youngsters reach elite level status.
So if the game is "on the wane" perhaps these are just a few reasons why this is so.
H.Q. need to research the future of the game from grass roots upwards.
