Don't know too much about Chim, other than he seems to have done a great job for Warriors.

Statement doesn't say anything about where he is going other than "he is to leave Sixways to take up a new opportunity in rugby outside the Midlands".

Any inside information any one.......?

A great shame. At least he seems to have gone for perfectly valid reasons, but I wish we could have kept him.

Thanks Chim.

Got to know Chim and Mark Hewitt a little better @ the London Floodlit 7's 2yrs ago and both always had time for a chat on A-league mondays and @ away trips.

His legacy will be the current crop of academy players he has brought through who have excelled in the A-League and particularly the 1st team plus the lads who are presently in the academy.

Good luck in your future endeavours Chim.Good to see you back someday.

Olivier??

Suspect we'll see him more in a Corporate role, IF he does come back.

I'd go for someone like James Percival. Link with the club/area, currently coaching in France, etc.

I think nurturing young talent is a very specialised field, and relevant experience in that should trump local connections, that they have coached adult games, that we have heard of them etc.

Let's put it this way. Without knowing he was in charge of the academy - who the hell is Chim Gale? He has some playing experience, but that ended at 20. What Chim Gayle was, however, was Rugby Close at Dean Close School, Cheltenham.

As much as Wynand Olivier is a great rugby player, his qualification is that he is able at playing, and we have heard of him. We have no idea how good he is at imparting knowledge, man management, program development etc,

Same with James Percival, yes he has local connections, yes he has coached adults. BUt this is a different kettle of fish. Also, I work in London, if someone said they were better at my job simply because they are from London, I would be insulted.

There have been a lot of the young lads on Twitter saying their thanks to Chim Gale this morning - he seems to have left a very real impression on these high quality academy products.

The best person for the job will be someone with experience in working with young guys, and helping them with the very distinct challenges that age group face (not saying they are easier of harder than adult ones, but they are distinct) - and nurturing them through a period where not only their rugby skill and strength is growing, but their confidence and resilience too.

For my money - the best person for this job is probably going to be someone we haven't heard of.

I know that robs us all of speculating about former players, but that's my opinion.

I think the point some are making is that Olivier hasn't worked with teenagers before. Windo has and wouldn't be a bad call given the criteria discussed. However, I'm not sure how many of us know what makes a good academy coach.

Windo would be the sort of person that should be looked at - teaching is a highly nuanced profession - experience is vital. Being a good practitioner does not guarunttee being a good teacher. Trust someone with experience of having sat through bad training sessions done by people with unimpeachable professional credentials.

What qualification does Olivier have, besides being a good player, that makes him the best option?

He said he could be back sooner than you think.

The club wanted to find him a role

Being a pathway/academy coach requires quite a different skill set, along with the ability to spot talent from a young age.

(Which makes Dean Ryan going into the RFU to head up that side of things totally baffling, but that's a different discussion for a different thread).

He was also talking about coming back in a commercial role, said it was time he gave something back to his family in South Africa, and already had something lined up over there.

I'm with TVM on this one.

I wouldn't rule out an internal promotion because the owners seem very keen in developing people and the concepts of community and a Warriors family; equally, Tony Windo is a good shout, if he's interested, because of his previous playing days, which definitely qualify him as 'family'. Then again, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Solly already has his own man lined up.

Judging by the comment that the recruitment process is already under way, we won't have to wait too long to find out.

If your going for internal promotion then that would bring in Dan Lyne into the equation. Very good with the junior level players which for me is one of the key criteria

Interested to hear more.

Regarding Windo, in the pod he said he liked the stability of working at the school. I've no idea if this rules him out.

In my job I train adults, and in my spare time I train teenagers. It's surprising how similar it actually is. I'd agree with TVM regarding sitting through some truly dreadful training sessions, particularly some of mine in the early days.

I think WBW is saying he is happy to say he doesn't know either.

I am not saying I know by the way - not really - only that it is almost certainly more than being a good rugby player already at the club.

I think that this is a job with a quite special skill set. My view is that the more unknown the name the better it may be.

Internal promotion is the way forward. Dan Lyne would be good from my experience with how my lad was treated by the academy and I totally agree that not being "a name" would also be good. If not Dan then someone else from the current set up. Whatever Chim has put in place obviously works!

Correct I have no idea what makes a good academy coach and manager. I remember when Carl Douglas used to come into my school and run a few sessions I couldn't stand him or his sessions I used to hide at the back of the group but there was no denying he was a very successful coach.

It is a big job to get right as we are looking to build a younger squad with our new owners but I have full trust in people like Solomans to make the right appointment and hopefully our production line will continue for years to come.

Thats my point on Carl he was clearly a good coach and good with young players it just didn't work with me on the very few sessions I had with him. Coaching youngsters is a minefield some you need to be tough on some you need to put your arm around and encourage. The right sort of people are probably very hard to find.

I wonder what Ugo thinks of this when his beloved Quins recruits someone from Worcester Warriors ......a club he derides at every opportunity. Perhaps Paul Gustard knows something that Ugo doesn't.......perhaps Chim can put him right.

Chief in Peace.

I have been following Chim's career for many years now. While this may appear a rather random following choice I have my reasons as firstly for those who don't know Chim is from our neck of the woods. But I also had both the misfortune of playing against him numerous times over the years at junior level, and also the fortune of playing with him for a year at under 16 level, which included a tour of Holland with him back in 2001.

All in all he clearly shone through as a top bloke and I am also happy to see that he did such a fine job with your academy and both brought through and had a hand in the development of so many young players at your club.

Plus as far as sports coaches go, He is still a baby as far as his age goes as there are current Premiership players older than he is... I do therefore honestly believe that Chim does have a big future in the game as a coach if he keeps it up.

He went on to (and may still be involved with) Wales in the pathway process.

He is currently dating Jo Wood (Ronnie Wood's ex wife). Top bloke.

Simon G. I definitely do not WORRY about Ugo's opinion as a pundit, but thee are may times he needs to open his other eye and see that there is more than one team on the pitch, that the one in gold and blue isn't all bad, and consider that he MIGHT not always be right.

Other than that, he is probably a smashing bloke!

Simon, kiddy is right.

It isnít a question of worrying about Ugoís opinion, , itís a question of justifiable frustration that he uses his privileged position and airtime to make consistently negative throwaway statements about our club.

How any times did he say mid-season that Worcester would be relegated.....have you heard him in the end of season reviews acknowledge that he was wrong?

He needs taking to task about his attitude towards us, even if its only on here. Heíll probably have a clipping service bringing all mentions of his name to his attention.

It will probably act as reinforcement of his views; to further his career Chim has been forced to leave lowly Wuss and join the Mighty Quins.
