Well, it's nearly upon us just 7hrs to go and we are in with a chance!

Wouldn't it be great to get something back off Sarries since our hammering at their place and the loss of Fatialofa. Good luck to him and Tatiana.

This is one for you "Fats"

If we can get a win it would make this season the 4th best season after 21 games with 36 possibly 37 points!

Come on boys - over to you.

You cannot tell from appearances how things will go. Sometimes imagination makes things out far worse than they are; yet without imagination not much can be done. Those people who are imaginative see many more dangers than perhaps exist; certainly many more than will happen; but then they must also pray to be given that extra courage to carry this far-reaching imagination. But for everyone, surely, what we have gone through since joining the premiership, surely there is a lesson: never give in, never, never, never-in nothing, great or small, large or petty - never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the opposition.

We supporters have stood shoulder to shoulder this year, and to many clubs it seemed that our chances for victory had become a pointless battle. All this tradition of ours, our songs, our chants, this part of the history of this club, would make it to those great heights once again, we are trained, fit and ready

Very different is the mood . Worcester, other clubs thought, had drawn a sponge across its slate. But instead our club stood in the gap. There was no flinching and no thought of giving in; and by what seemed almost a miracle to those outside this great club, though we ourselves never doubted it, we now find ourselves in a position where I say that we can be sure that we have to give everything on the field of battle to win and get those last 10 points to make this the best season in our history.

Do not let us speak of darker days: let us speak rather of sterner days. These are not dark days; these are unusual days - the strangest days our club has lived. We must all thank Solly and his coaching cohorts that we have been allowed, each of us according to our role and commitment, to play a part in making these days memorable in the history of our Club.

OUR support is very special, made so by the electric charges generated by such devoted souls as we send through the ether our energy and massed support. Are we to be the ones to forego our place in the making of our beloved club, are we to be the ones who will be the cause of saddened hearts and regrets.

I say to you all, ďNO WE WILL NOT, we will never give in, never, never-in nothing, great or small, large or petty - never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the fervour and passion of the opposition. This is OUR time, OUR destiny

We WILL be loud, we WILL be strong, we will endure, we ARE The WARRIORS!!!

So therefore all you passionate committed supporters I say, ďCry 'Havoc!'Ē And Let Slip Those 23 Brave, impassioned, Warriors to bring home the spoils of a great VICTORY over the Black Shirted Marauders from the deep south!!

What a waste Sarries Charlie Watson will be in the Championship.Hope he's English!

Good 3rd try by Sarries but their 1st two were stupid mistakes by us.Even though a few phases back it was Bresler's handling for their 1st & our error from the re-start for their 2nd.

Not often our bench is stronger than Sarries but our ' game changers ' will have a huge input in this match I expect.

C'mon lads,a strong 2nd half please!

Great stuff, thought Searle looked really good and Heward made plenty of metres.

Ted loves bombing down the flank doesn't he, good to see. I'll lead the way and say Melani was OUTSTANDING under the high ball and joining the attack.

On to Sale now, we've got an opportunity here.

Re: Warriors Vs Saracens - Match Thread
AJWarriors1 30 September, 2020 18:30
Happy with that. Saw some really good things from individuals tonight. Clegg I thought looked very good and so did Batley when he came on..Bresler had a shocker but I thought with Bats and Clegg the dominated the line out and disturbed Sarries ball really well too.

Hougaard is playing out of his skin at the moment but collectively we looked good in the backs. Himself and Searle look great and the attacking lines and patterns were very smooth and direct. Nanai is looking outstanding too and I love that back line of Nanai, Perry and Heward.

Defence needs work still...itís obvious we needs a specialised coach before next season though.

Cons for me were the reps again. Theyíre too slow to get in the flow of the game where the Sarries boys hit the ground running. Also we left a lot of tries out on the field too which needs to be addressed, but overall Iím chuffed

Re: Warriors Vs Saracens - Match Thread

I'm afraid tonight was probably our last win this season.
With only a 4 day turnaround it'll be all change v Sale.Sale will have had an extra days rest & will have a strong line up to ensure top 4.

Even if we get a 5 pointer v Sale I can't see Glaws failing v an ailing Saints.

We wouldn't be ready for the top table in Europe but that's a different story!

Re: Warriors Vs Saracens - Match Thread
Fiver 30 September, 2020 20:10
Great to see Searle put in a decent shift tonight. Also great to see Perry back to playing well, Heward on the other wing continues to impress and Nanai looks comfortable in the team to show his class.

I too was impressed by Clegg, I felt for Bressler as you could see the frustration on his face after making a few errors. He's a good player though, everyone has those moments so no need to knock him.

One of the things I really enjoyed though, was seeing how much fight there was in Ollie. He had what I like to call 'dog'. His attacking run near the end where he refused to go down was reminiscent of how Bryce played. He was also unlucky not to get the decision on the last Sarries try, for the life of me I couldn't work out if the ball touched the ground or not. A superb tackle whichever way it should have gone.

A few errors tonight, and a few too many penalties, but I can't be unhappy with a 5 point win, no matter who the opposition are. I thought the Sarries youngsters did what they always do, and showed a great account of themselves.

Re: Warriors Vs Saracens - Match Thread
Abmatt 30 September, 2020 20:27

Re: Warriors Vs Saracens - Match Thread
WorcesterSauce 30 September, 2020 21:53
We must improve drastically next season. That was a Saracens third team and weíve let them in for 4 tries. If we seriously want to climb the table we simply canít be conceding like we were today/since lockdown.

Re: Warriors Vs Saracens - Match Thread
AJWarriors1 30 September, 2020 22:14
I agree. The ones they scored were all from our unforced errors. We missed a good few opportunities ourselves too for example if Perry had a little more composure from his break to offload to hand then that was a definite score. A lot to do but at least the coaches will now have a bit of time to look at what areas need improvement and hopefully a specialist defence coach too to replace Omar. I think we are pretty close to seeing what our strongest 15 looks like now as well. Itís just the drop off in performance when our replacements come on that worries me

I know that AS said we would recruit a defence coach, but that was before covid and before scrapping the trials of a return of spectators. I fear that a defence coach will go the same way as Bobby de Wee.
And in fairness, why would you add to the wage-bill when ongoing restrictions could threaten the survival of the club.
I know that it is a topic for another thread, but next season will be far from a level playing field. Should ring-fencing come in for a season? But that would leave the thorny question of Sarries?????

Sorry, this was a thread for the match. Well done to team and coaches. We have picked up enough wins of late to go into next season with morale in tact.

Re: Warriors Vs Saracens - Match Thread
Abmatt 01 October, 2020 07:07
We won but I donít think we played well. We should have put them to the sword a lot sooner. Defensively we were poor. That was pretty much our 1st XV that was tested and run close by a sarries development side!

We played better in the quins game. Were more creative in the backs, had more possession and dominated them. Again a 2nd/development side.

If we can only play like that against that level of opposition then we are in the wrong league. Either the club goes down, or the players really step up and put in a shift against Sale away to show what they really are capable of. On last nights showing it could be a mauling.

Re: Warriors Vs Saracens - Match Thread
Fiver 01 October, 2020 07:29
Is it a case that you can only play what's in front of you, and that your standards will be effected by that of the opposition?

The first half was played in the rain, which is a great leveller as we tend to rely on slick handling in attack. I missed the first 15 minutes, but from what I saw two of their tries were hard to defend. The first Crossdale try was a kick that bounced off one of ours player's legs and fortuitously into the perfect place for him to score. Watson's second try was Bressler lifted out of position and the ball dropping perfectly to a Sarries player. Can you defend either of those? I'm not so sure, other than Bressler being lifted under the ball, not in the same postcode.

One of the things which I felt held us back, especially in the second half, was the great play by Sarries young half backs. Both were excellent, with Vunipola playing a very intelligent game.

The only thing I'm not sure of is how many tries we'd have scored if BT Sport had sent their 1st team of cameramen. I'm not sure Heward was onside, and I'm really not sure Hougaard was onsite for his second score. Hang on, I've just chucked some Optrex into my third eye, of course they were onside, by a country mile!!

Re: Warriors Vs Saracens - Match Thread
ROLLO 01 October, 2020 08:04
Very pleased with the win. Hougaard MOtM with encouraging performances from Clegg and Heward.
However as some other have said the Sarries side was a good Championship one and that is currently where we stand. Big improvements have to be made if we are to compete for a mid table safety.
I am sure that the coaches will not be expecialy happy with that performance , and as Fiver has indicated we got the rub of the green with two tries and possibly Beck's, albeit not with Sarries last.
In the current climate I think we can rule out any additions to the squad or coaches unless there are some leavers. and we can't agrue against that. We have to make use of what we have and become more than the sum of our parts. Our biggest problem is concentration, how many times do we concede after just scoring oursleves. Ted Hill is a great contributor as a player but has a lot to learn about captaincy.

Re: Warriors Vs Saracens - Match Thread
WorcesterSauce 01 October, 2020 08:58
Fiver their 2nd try was a very poor mistake at kick off and then a missed tackle from Hougaard. Whereas the mistake isnít directly bad defence, it is a mistake in our defensive third of the pitch for which you have to make as few as possible in. The missed tackle is bad defence, although I appreciate it wasnít the easiest to make I still think he should have got him.

Agree that Hewerd was almost certainly offside for his try too!

Re: Warriors Vs Saracens - Match Thread

I donít know if this will be contentious or not, but I donít think giving Ted the captaincy has done him (or the team) any favours. I think I would have preferred to give him a bit longer to just develop and hone his own game without the added responsibility. Although to be fair I think maybe the captaincy of the side has suffered more than his game has.

It will be different when Moulds takes over as Team Captain on the day.

I thought Hougaard played really well and for me has been the best player since the restart of the season. He seems to have found his MoJo all over again.

Clegg looked more than capable as does Heward.

Humphreys just gives absolutely everything to his game and the team and I like players who back themselves

I forgot about Hougaard slipping off the tackle, certainly not the only one last night. More worrying is it seems to be a trend in all of our games with seemly all of our players.

Re: Warriors Vs Saracens - Match Thread
WarwickEastie 01 October, 2020 13:41
Too many negative comments on here for me. The conditions were foul initially and pretty wet throughout, which is always going to level things down. Some of the dropped balls and slipped tackles won't have happened on a dry day.

Yes there are things to work on - but there are still some fairly green players in our side - Heward, Clegg, Searle - so it wasn't just men against boys.

Of course we'll need to play better against full strength sides, but as it is we put them away pretty well in the end, playing the poor conditions, decent in scrum and lineout.

Not sure how anyone can say Hewards try was offside as he wasn't on camera. If you are very quick you often look offside.....

And special mention for Perry who always looks good when he plays - aggressive, skillful - and what's more coming back after a lay off.
In all, not bad I'd say!

Re: Warriors Vs Saracens - Match Thread

I mean Billy Searle is closer to 25 than he is 24 whilst Justin Clegg is also 24 in just 3 months. They arenít kids.

With Clegg and Cutting they went to uni..actually Kitch did too. Loki,
I think the truth is that we all know that this was a very weak Sarries team. But the whole post lockdown competition has been a tale of mismatches. We all know that we will learn more when next season kicks off (although even then the bolstered international program will have a significant impact). However, we have been starved of rugby and are enjoying seeing it on tv again.
I don't think anyone is suggesting that we are the next All Blacks. In fact I think celebrations for this latest win have all been tempered with comments about missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
The teams can only play who is put in front of them, and we can only enjoy, praise and criticise the games we are shown.

Hence the lack of flak.

Regarding the comments on Clegg, Kitch & Cutting, it is often the case now that forwards, especially locks, develop later than backs, hence it is more common to see Premiership debuts for younger backs than forwards.

Before anyone starts with the 'yeah, what about...' there will always be exceptions but forwards in the modern age generally need the time to build the muscle etc to be competitive against more grizzled, experienced opponents!

I thought Batley did well in the short time he was on. Stole a few line outs which was good and carried well. Didnít have much time to do much more but from what I saw he did well. I think having two very tall locks made all the difference with Clegg at 6í8 and Bats at 6í7. Sarries life at the line out was hard going as Clegg was dominating both in attacking and defensive line outs. Bats disrupted a lot too in his short cameo
