I notice that Penzance boy and London Cornish stalwart Harry Somers is going to be playing for Pirates Amateurs. Harry has been a stand-out player for the London Cornish side over the past four or five years playing at both Level Six and Seven.

Good news - The Ams struggled a bit last season, but seem to have strengthened the squad. First home game (on the nursery) on Saturday against Plymstock Albion Oaks (3pm).

The one that got away today Ams 17 PAO18.
The boys competed well against big, powerful PAO side and seemed to have done enough when they went 17-8 ahead in the second half. What looked like a cracking try was disallowed for a marginal forward pass and then a couple of soft penalties cost the Ams dear. From the first one PAO kicked to the corner and then scored from the catch and drive, the conversion seemed to have drifted wide, but was given. 17-15. Then the ref deemed the Pirates' midfield offside and the penalty put PAO a point ahead. A scuffle saw a PAO players sent off, and Ams attacked relentlessly. They were awarded a penalty, but the tough kick drifted slightly wide and PAO held out for the win.
A frustrating result, but lots of positives from the young Ams team, with bags of commitment in defence, a good set piece against big, heavy opposition and some good attacking rugby.
Great to see Brett Beukeboom and John Stevens on the coaching team and Chris Stirling and Paves there to support the boys.
