Bulls second row and flanker Jannes Kirsten is being linked to us.

If true and take with a large pinch of salt, this is what's arriving fom Loftus Versfeld. Naturally his best carries.

Agreed Comanche, He's 6 ft 5 1/2, 17st and only 25. Very physical carrier and also seems to enjoy the physicality too. Would be a good asset to the team.

I really like the look of this guy. Big horrible Afrikaans forward who carries hard and drives well through contact. Looks very good and would compliment our more athletic locks/flankers. I can see 4. Kirsten 5. Hill being a very effective, dynamic and uncompromising combination. Include Skinner, Dennis and even Armand into that mix and you can start to see the sort of utility forward RB looks for. These guys are all have slightly different key strengths and specialisations but they are similar enough to rotate as often as needed without disrupting patterns and tactics.

Good luck Mitch, we will miss his bulk in the driving mauls and his latching on in the pick and drives!

Also, Mitch had been one of our top winner of turnovers. He has already been removed from the players list on the official website, but I know from previous viewing when they played regularly Mitch and Luke were our top turnover specialists. No surprise that Kvesic easily topped last season's list with 21 turnovers, but he did concede 27!
Interestingly even though The Chiefs were one of the top teams in the Northern Hemisphere our forwards only won 74 turnovers to 121 conceded, but add in the backs contribution of 49 FOR to 188 AGAINST and you wonder why the team did so well!
A question of what exactly do these statistics prove?

For me Mitch is a big loss.. there are very few players with his size that can add so much to the scrum, maul, latch-ons etc. He was also strong and physical in the tackle and could make some hard yards. A real enforcer. We missed him at times last year and he is one of the players that gave our pack an edge. Big big loss IMHO.. Iím worried that our pack continues to stand still while others improve.

I guess these are a result of the amount of possession that we have and the amount of phases we go through.

I would have thought that what the squad needs is a fly half Toomanychiefs. I think this may be the season when we see the club legend that is Steeno start to take more of a back up role to Joe Simmonds. It would need to be carefully judged though- someone who could go straight in and play first team if required, but not a big name player necessarily.
