Welcome Jacques.
Looks a very astute signing. Ticks a lot of boxes with his versatility, could play at lock as well his preference at flanker, hits hard and shows a bit of toe in the loose as well.
At 24 years of age what's not to like

Have made a point of watching as many of The Sharks in Super Rugby and Currie Cup just to see JV. He does tick a lot of boxes, is very consistent and played a lot of minutes.
He will obviously get much comparison with Don, but from what I have seen he has only played as a flanker and doesn't seem to be used much as a line out option. On TV he comes over as a slighter version, but the stats disagree.
However his tackling stats are regularly high and efficient, and he seems to do more ball carrying.
Whatever, just as Rob has suggested there is plenty The Chiefs conditioning team can do to influence his move to Northern Hemisphere rugby and getting a three year contract says a lot.

Agreed, He said he intends on completely embracing the culture at the club so sounds like he is going to be putting in his all along with his compatriot.

Exe will have a heck of a lot of depth in the back row this coming year with Kvesic, Ewers, Armand, Simmonds, Capstick, Skinner, Lonsdale, Tuima, Dennis and also Kirsten capable of playing across the backrow...

Interesting piece of recruitment on the basis I understand this has been in the pipeline a while and is the reason there was no space for Lawday who very much wanted to stay. In light of Tony Rowes stated aims about wanting to field a fully-fledged team from Academy products is this a step forward or back or just the reality of getting the most bang for your buck (a cheaper but quality SA player who covers lock and backrow over a homegrown quality EQP who covers backrow)

Not stirring just interested in supporters views. Similarily with Hogg at FB. My feeling is that however noble an idea it is to be 100%, or as near as, homegrown to compete at the top level you probably can't rely on just that talent?

Its a Pipe dream. Even if Exeter didn't have the most productive academy in the Premiership there simply wouldn't be enough players coming through to be entirely reliant on your academy to restock your squad.
