Jersey v Falcons on Saturday - CUP

Well we're nearly back!

Whats peoples thoughts on the likely team selection?

Will he put a out a full strength side to start and give every one a run out, then make big changes at half time?

Or will he start a mixed team and change it all at half time?

Probably the latter as Deano's publicly announced that these cup games are being treated as "pre season friendlies"
Don't be surprised if we lose 1 or 2 of these games (as we often have pre season)

We can treat the game as a preseason friendly but I doubt the competition rules will allow more than the usual 8 substitutes. On that basis I would expect a mix and match team with a very different 15 selection for the second game and something closer to best available for the third

I hadnít picked up on that it was 22 last season. Absolutely right regulation 6.7 8 subs this season.

At the risk of sounding disloyal that could be the final!

I hope a few of the Falcons players make the Friday meet and greet. The old Jersey lads are always welcome but itís a great opportunity for Falcons players to meet their own fans.

Hi CC, the team are in and out on Saturday so sadly won't be around on the Friday. When we visit in the league we'll be there for two nights.

Thanks Mark at least there is virtually no chance of fog this weekend. A two night stay at the end of Feb will give your lads a great opportunity to mix with Falcon's supporters who are over then and as I believe the following weekend has no games scheduled they shouldn't have the pressure to prepare for the next match.

Thats a pretty good side.

Strong combatative back row.
Good mix of experienced guys and young academy produced guys....

And looks to have lots of attacking potential.

One wag near us said Jersey had put out a 2nd team, but not sure how true that is considering some of the other nonsense he was babbling.

Not a good first half, we struggled for possession and kicked most of the ball we did have. Jersey played some nice rugby but struggled to make much progress with it. Their try looked like a bit of a mix-up between Radwan and Young, though neither can be criticised for it.

Darren Barry had a good game I thought. Blamire was quite lively as well, made a big break for one of the tries.

Hopefully Penny's injury (head by the look of it) isn't too bad, man's got no luck with injuries.

Overall, good in defence but need to do better when we have the ball.

The game wasnít a classic but I did think there were some positives. Nice to see Blamire have a go and he showed up well in the loose.
Our forwards were in the ascendancy but we didnít seem to attack as well as we would all like to see. I am not convinced that Flood is physically capable anymore of being a 12. I thought Uzokwe did alright when he came on as well.
I didnít get the impression that it was a weakened Jersey side but then I am no expert on their team. A win is a win. Did you see the score for Leeds Carnegie, that was sad to see.

HT was J3 N6

The Reds squad was close to the best we could field with a handful of injuries + 2 at RWC.

Not a huge Falcons contingent but they were on great form and will hopefully bring reinforcements in Feb. Let's hope the early spring is as warm as the late summer was last Thu-Sat! ps it's been bucketing down ever since!

Pleased to see Mr & Mrs Leipy, albeit briefly, shame we didn't recognise each other earlier - see you in December!
