The side played some nice attacking rugby in spells last week. More than we've seen all season.

I know its a cup game..but would it not be nice to try and build a bit of consistency now...and familiarity playing some high tempo pacy rugby.

Start Connon again etc.

I haven't got the idea of picking first choice players in this cup all season (compared to when we were in the Challenge Cup and fielding 2nd/3rd choice players) and guess that won't change so hopefully it serves to keep the momentum going.

Also:
"London Scottish unfortunately have not won a game this season."
They've won 3 league games...

Doing the best I can Matt!!

I am now presuming they mean 2020 -?

Fair enough!

It’s a cup game so isn’t a priority. High chance of winning regardless of what side we put out. Some interesting combos!

Re: Newastle Falcons v London Scottish -Preview
AJfalc 21 February, 2020 17:18
Dare say the cup isn’t a priority for London Scottish either.

Re: Newastle Falcons v London Scottish -Preview
Barry555 21 February, 2020 17:21
Probably AJfalc. And I couldn’t comment on if Scottish are putting out a strong side or not. Don’t know much about them to be honest.

Look forward to see our Stevenson at 13. He’s looked good on the wing.

Only Uzokwe seems to get a semi regular gig from the group of what you could call academy / up and coming forwards, maybe Dean doesn’t rate the rest at the moment.

Would have thought this match was taylor made for one of the young scrum halves to get a run out but what do I know.

You can’t play in the cup unless you played in the group stage. The RFU made an exception for Johnny Williams this week.

Nordli-Kelemeti has played in the group stage. Is he still injured?

Ahhh, that makes sense. Thanks Smithy.

Pretty sure Cam isn’t fit but I’ll stand corrected

I wasn’t at the game today but can see from the report that Johnny Williams came on as a sub but was then substituted. Did he get injured ?

pityacker 22 February, 2020 19:39
Johnny walked off after treatment I have no idea if it was an HIA or another injury.

I hope not. With Jersey & Ealing in the league on the horizon we really need our best players fit

It was a leg injury.

Did anyone other than Pityacker and Alas go to the game today?!

2003 apparently

Match report suggests it wasn't a hugely inspiring game, and that the Falcons were never in any danger. Can't argue with another 4-try win, forward to the semi-finals.

That must be a genuine/accurate figure excluding ST no showers

A very straightforward win in yet again awful conditions. Very professional performance and Scottish very rarely threatened.
Our 4th try was something special....hope Jonny W is ok as he was class again when he came on.

Must say that Toby Fllood played extremely well today, motivating his team mates throughout

Hi Robs, ‘season ticket no-shows’ as you so elegantly put it, wouldn’t count today as it wasn’t on the season ticket.

I did! Definately the smallest crowd i've seen. Practically had an entire block of seats in the West Stand to myself.

Sam Stuart got MOTM today which was very well deseverved. Hopefully he'll get a run of league games off the back of this.

Re: Newastle Falcons v London Scottish -Preview
Barry555 22 February, 2020 22:58
Didn’t inspire much today to be honest.

Sam Stuart went well , run of games for him now that Tane has left. Flood was on great form , to get 100% kicking in that today with kicks from out wide too shows the blokes class.

Apart from that not much happened really.

Hope Williams Isnt out for too long , he was getting back to his best but we have adequate cover there.

Into the semi finals anyway , knockout rugby isn’t about performance it’s about results. 20 game winning streak , can’t whinge too much eh!

That was my very point Mark!
For games covered by Season Tickets we have no idea how many people might actually be attending.
As it wasn't included in the ST package somebody will have had to count the numbers coming through the turnstiles

markismith50 22 February, 2020 23:24
Sorry Robs, I thought you were stating that today’s gate included ST no-shows. Thanks for clarifying.

Between the dismal turnout, Arctic wind and fairly mediocre game, that one was a real endurance trial. Only stand out of the whole thing was Flood being on absolutely excellent form in appalling conditions.

Re: Newastle Falcons v London Scottish -Preview
Rogerandout 23 February, 2020 08:52
Was a smaller crowd than I expected.
Weird game to watch in that the set piece was pretty solid, Flood did well and yet we had very little possession. The ref definitely favoured Scottish. Our play did improve once Williams came on and he and Stevenson gave us a very powerful aggressive looking punch in the midfield.
Blamire carries well again,Van de Walt came on, Graham was his usual impressive self.
Nothing happened really and yet we were pretty decent and it was dull to watch.

How did Van der Walt look ?

Is he going to make an impact in our team ?

I watched Van der Walt closely for the 20 minutes he played out of curiosity as had seen so little of him wondering why he had been signed and really liked what I saw lots of aggression knows exactly what to do and at least twice when breaks were made he was there on the shoulder to support and carry on the move if he stays fit I think going by what I saw during his short run out he is going to be a very good signing.

stuart66 23 February, 2020 14:16
Except from some missed high tackles I think the ref had a very good game.
The falcons give away too many penalties holding on when tackled , tacklers not rolling away and handling while off their feet. Falcons too good for the conference but did not look a premiship team

Re: Newastle Falcons v London Scottish -Preview
Rogerandout 23 February, 2020 14:53
I too like the look of Van de Walt. I like Graham and obviously Wilson and that to me is as good a back row as we will see in the Premiership next year.

Assuming we get promoted a back row of wilson Graham and de Walt is as good as any. Probably even more important a back row of welch hardie and chick will hold there own. As we discovered last year it is often the strength of your second 15 that is key. We are comfortable in the back row but not in many other positions

PVDW bit of an unknown quantity. Seem to have been injured for most of the campaign so far. However the glimpses of him have been promising. Typical Saffer , physical and abrasive yet a cool edge to him. I think he could turn out to be a very good signing.

A good win in horrible conditions, that wind was bad enough in the stand, let alone on the park. I do think the team needs to try and play refs better, we conceded a lot of penalties.
