Northumberland Rugby Union are very sorry to pass on the sad news that Wes Dixon passed away on Sunday night after a brave battle with cancer.

He served on many County Committees and he was the driving force in ensuring that our seriously injured players were looked after during their rehabilitation, no matter how long that took.

Wes will be particularly remembered by the local rugby community as the welcoming face in Ponteland’s clubhouse and for his affable demeanour in everything that he did for rugby.

Our sincere condolences go to Carol and family and to the many colleagues and friends that Wes had across the rugby community.

Sad day. Played against Wes quite a bit when he was a back rower at Ponteland. Really good bloke, last saw him on our trip to watch the Falcons at Jersey. Always friendly, will be a miss.

Knew Wes from his playing days and beyond. He was a good man...sad day
