Was re-watching the 2003-4 Heineken Cup winning season DVD earlier and got me thinking about the value of the squad players we had back then. The likes of John Rudd weren't ever really first choice but I always rated him.

Also reminded me how good Jonny O'Connor was - real hero of mine for those few years he was with us.

Also known as Jonny O'Concrete! Absolutely fearless. Now S&C coach at his old club Connacht.

O'Connor was tremendous - wasn't he in the Irish squad at one stage? I think it all went wrong for him after his neck injury in the Anglo/Welsh final when we played Scarlets at Twickenham as he never properly recovered.

JOC had been highlighted as a future international for some time before his first cap. Keith Wood was always encouraging Gats to pick him, but Gats wanted to introduce him steadily. It was natural for Gatland to want him at Wasps. Unbelievable over the ball, aided by a neck as thick as a Rhinoceros.
