All the Refs are going to have some bias when it comes to 60 40 calls against Irish - it is to be expected but we need to be smarter and not be in a position for them to effect the outcome of the match..

Anyway:

Who will come in and who will head out for this weekend considering some of our new talent are already training. For me -

1. Dell
2. Fainga
3. Hoskins
4. Botha
5. Franco
6. Blair Cowan
7 TJ Ioane
8 Albert Tuisue
9 Ben Meehan
10 Stephen Myler
11 Ben Loader
12 Tom Stephenson
13 Curtis Rona - not convinced at the moment but maybe Campbell
14 Naholo
15 Paddy Jackson

Agree with the team but would have Freddie at 15

I'd rather be a Paddy then a Quin!!

Given he played at 15 v Sarries and we got on pretty well it's not really a surprise people are looking to keep him there.

I'm siding with E_D on this one and would stick Freddie back in the 15 shirt.

Re: Leicester Tigers game
GHA 08 November, 2019 09:31
I was hoping Sarries was more of a one off but good call Florida

Re: Leicester Tigers game
SirBurger 08 November, 2019 09:49
Jackson needs a bit of time to settle in I think and rebuild his confidence after a bit of a difficult time in France. Myler controlled the game a lot better against Sarries and even though PJ clearly is the better ball-player, I can see merit in going with Myler's experience again in what are likely to be fairly miserable conditions.

Re: Leicester Tigers game

Good call re Freddy.. was not sure if he was available

Re: Leicester Tigers game
Ajax Treesdown 08 November, 2019 09:59
Paddy played 15 vs Sarries as it gave us two top quality kicking options in those conditions.

We've signed a world class 10, he has to start at 10.

I really like the look of our back row. I donít mind Paddy at 15 given the Sarries game and Iím really eager to see Naholo in action. Always got my gloomy London Irish specs on but thereís quiet excitement. If we put this game to bed suddenly our entire outlook on this season will change.

Re: Leicester Tigers game

Re: Leicester Tigers game

Given Bath and Worcester's results today, tomorrow is simply a must-win.

Win and we'll be between 4th and 8th. Lose and us and Wasps will start looking a bit lonely down the bottom.

Re: Leicester Tigers game
NMB 09 November, 2019 18:17
Yep completely agree, it is also a real indicator of what our season could hold. if we don't win most of our home games and especially those against teams low on confidence and a whole raft of their stars missing then it really will be a long hard slog.

Leicester will be a big challenge though, I've seen plenty of home games against them we should of won but they have always found a way to win!

Hoping for a different story tomorrow, can't expect too much from the new signings on their first appearance but hard not to get excited. Phipps sounds eager.

Re: Leicester Tigers game
Blarney 10 November, 2019 15:30
That try had everything - strength from Albert and Botha, pace from Loader, a rescue from Blair just when it might have broken down and crisp passing from Myler and Hepetema. And props to Naholo, he got the ball in space and, as the new boy, it would have been tempting to force things and do it himself. But he ran a good line and made a good pass which kept the move going.

Re: Leicester Tigers game

I think they need further clarification on what the TMO can and cannot do. JP made the point that both he and the TJ were in line at the time and thought it fine, yet the TMO dragged it back up to show him. A less experienced ref might have changed his mind and robbed the match of an outstanding try. The RWC highlighted too much nit-picking from TMOs looking to force their way into the game and it needs to be curbed.

Should be only used for clear and obvious or when the ref requests. I don't know why some struggle with forward passes so much.

I couldn't pick a man of the match out of that.

Naholo barely got the ball but still got a try and everything he touched was class for the 3 or 4 times the ball came to him.

Watched on Unibet. Hugely proud of the defence, and of the deadliness in taking the chances we had. Tuisue, Hoskins, Cowan, Botha and Ioane stood out in the forwards, Loader, Rona and Meehan in the backs. Oh and a super cameo from Phipps.

Wonderful result.

But sorry, Leicester were awful: clueless in attack! Rob Hardwick can be proud of his lad, who was excellent, but otherwise... nada.

Happy bunny here...!!!

Re: Leicester Tigers game

Loader and Albert were great, among a host of very, very good performances.

Rona was extremely physical in defence, which clearly rattled the LT backline. Naholo did very well each time the ball came to him. Phipps had a very strong cameo after a good performance from Meehan.

PJ was solid under the high ball, and Botha/VdM in the 2nd row were powerhouses, with Ioane and Cowan both being very annoying for LT in the rucks. It's nice to have a pack that can outmuscle most opposition teams. Everyone had at the very least a good game.

JP Doyle had a decent game. Good communication.

I described it as a must win, and the boys didn't let me down.

There's a long way to go, I know, but who'd have thought that after 4 games we would be in 7th position, equal on points with Exeter and Gloucester, but above Leicester, Wasps, Harlequins, Bath and Worcester.

The lads will have to dig deep to keep this up once all the England players are back playing.

Re: Leicester Tigers game
Doc3 10 November, 2019 18:26
Great match today. Really optimistic about our future. Without being unrealistic our pack performed well but what was really impressive was the vision shown by the team to see spaces and opportunities which gave us great tries and showed confidence in themselves to take risks. We wonít get rewarded every time with this but it will give our players self belief.

Re: Leicester Tigers game
exile99 10 November, 2019 19:19
A full 23 man performance today. What a joy to leave the MadStad after a convincing win in the Prem.

Tiggers were very disappointing, and only have themselves to blame if they didn't like JP's decisions. On the ref radio he was continually advising them to stop telling him how to ref the game - something he really hates. He likes to be in charge - that's his job after all. And his ire was very clear when the TMO tried to overrule him on that pass.

But the game was won by the boys in green. The new signings slotting in well and proving that Declan & Les have selected some great players to take us forward.

Re: Leicester Tigers game

We were very good and I thought that Rona and, in particular Botha were monumental. Itís a real shame if Botha has to go to Japan - we should do everything to keep him here. I also liked the look of Phippsís quick pass, but the whole team looked good.

The only thing is the number of penalties we gave away when defending. We actually donít need to as our defence today was excellent, particularly in the centres. I actually thought that we had the rub of the green with JP. A less lenient ref might have carded earlier in the half.

But a very fine result

Just nit picking:
Great performance but giving away 19 penalties over the course of the game will need to be looked at. Also -
Allowing the opposition to score at the death is becoming a habit - stop these two and we will have a cracking season

They showed it during the highlight broadcast last night, I'm guessing it'll be in the extended highlight package.

As you say though, criminal it's not in the regular highlights as that should be showing tries and their full build up and the extended should be the scores plus other key moments.

I agree. I posted during the match about the player giving away a penalty by lifting a leg in the maul, clear as day. That sort of obvious thing needs to be trained out of the players. That said from the resulting penalty they recovered the ball and went the length of the field . So maybe it pays!

Positives for me were our defence albeit we lived on offside and the work against the driving maul and at the breakdown

Our set piece as we didnít seem comfortable in the line outs nor scrim

glad to see refs are still having good games on here, when we 5 try win (Sm30) ...perhaps we could employ that sneaky ruse again|?

JP didnít have a good game according to someone I sit near, but then my friend has to have a hobby & that is criticising referees (Sm14)

Now let me guess - surname beginning with G or N?

Put it like this, Statler is missing Waldorf or is it vice-versa (Sm14)

That's "Look. If I don't help Sir how will they he ever learn?"

But then I guess Sir doesn't have to use correct English grammar: 'tis probably not necessary when communicating with professional rugby players...!

Firstly, let's not impose gender onto people, plus we've definitely seen at least one Sir that, almost certainly, identified as female. Secondly, there are more than one Sir who can learn from my wisdom. Hence my use of "they" was entirely correct but thanks for playing Alec. (Sm85)
