Normal service resumed then.

There's also a lot of talk on their forum about them putting out a 2nd team due to England call-ups and LI having a full strength team ... there was me thinking we were missing players due to injury too and I didn't realise the entire Saints 1st team had been called up.

Saints have always been bad losers, the booing last night was unexceptable and in the realms of wendyball.

I agree, and all the Saints fans sitting near me at FranklinĎs Gardens last night may have been gobsmacked but they took on the chin.

All the things I have heard from Saints supporters have been pretty gracious in defeat. Iím pretty sure if the Meehan incident had been committed on an Irish player by a Saint with the same sanction, most of us would have been apoplectic too!

I was furious with Meehan for what he did and he was very very lucky not to have seen red.

Indeed, the ones popping in here have been decent. I was going to head over to their board and thank them for the game, but having read some of their nonsense decided not to.

I think my favourites are from Wilson Pickett who thinks it's less than half their first team against our full strength AND they had a man sent off. Let's just pretend for a moment that is our full strength, I find it laughable that they fail to realise they had a player in the bin for 30 minutes and we had 2 10 minute binnings. It's hardly the massive advantage they seem to think. However, my absolute favourite is from Tunbridgesaint who, and I quote, states "Hahaha, top 2 in the league, guaranteed to be in the prem final and champions cup quarter finalist. We are a top 8 team in Europe and BT Sport are bigging up a championship side.
Luckily for them another team is going down so they will be safe" I think someone needs to explain to them that their guaranteed Prem finalist has just been sat on their ar5e by a championship side. If we've worked them out in our clearly limited capacity imagine what the rest of the league will do to them.

Its typical emotional reaction to an unexpected loss

Yes the had Moon Lawes Ludlum Bigger Dingwell and the other chap...

We also had Paddy, Parton ,Loader and arguably Botha and SOB

So not a huge difference in how many each team were missing.

We here have gone from "anything 11th or higher is good enough" to
"We are actually pretty good now!" to
"Thank goodness for Saracens being relegated" and now back to
"We could potentially finish top 6!"

ďAccording to most papers today Irish didnít win but Saints lost.Ē

Being a dyed in the wool socialist (smoked salmon variety) I turned to the Guardian on Saturday morning for an account of our victory on Friday night.
As only one premiership game was played on Friday I expected an extended article.
What did I get?
Zero, zilch, nada.

Oh well Saracens and Finn Russellís misbehaviour are more important

There was a brief report (not a full article) in the Times, a lot of which focussed on Saints and Francis' injury, which granted looked serious at the time and gladly seems to be not too bad now. Not so much about Irish

Understandable for a national newspaper to fail to include a report on a match finishing in the middle of the night. Especially for the editions bound for the uncivilised regions of the country i.e. outside the M25. Mind you, I did think the Guardian was a Manchester based newspaper??

Not really an excuse for not holding the report over until Sunday. Nor can I get my head around why there seem to be no match reports in the ST for any of the weekend's rugby but the paper has found space for no fewer than two of Steven Jones' familiarly incoherent articles.

Could be worse, TRP focuses on Saints with just a couple of mentions of ourselves. I think the highlight for me is the headline quote from our DOR interview "Kennedy: We rode out storm"

I love it when other teams\supporters and the media underestimate us. Makes the "shock results" even sweeter. So far of the "Top teams" we've beaten Saints, drawn with Bristol, and taken points from Exeter and Sarrires where others struggle to do so. Not counting any chickens, but looking forward to being written off again soon.

Being gracious in victory is as admirable as being gracious in defeat.

Magnanimous in victory & gracious in defeat is how I was taught it. Churchill had a good line:

ďIn war, resolution; in defeat, defiance; in victory; magnanimity; in peace, good will.Ē

My team did not turn up on friday night. They arrogantly thought that it was a five pointer from the first whistle - we have previous in this regard which suggests that Boyd and his coaching staff have some way to go before getting the attitude of the team in the right place. Sure, we had some players missing, yes we lost Francis early doors, yes Meehan is a very lucky boy and yes Api was a bit hard done by BUT a good team takes all this in its stride which we singularly failed to do against Irish. If we had won the game we would not have deserved to do so and were it not for utter brain fade by Henry Taylor we might have nicked it.

No complaints from this Saints fan and Mylers comments after the game were pure class - he may be yours for now but always a Saint in these parts !

It feels like you are reiterating the very heading of this thread. I would like to point out a couple of things though, Meehan was sooo lucky that he wasn't even contacted by citing officials, Api was sooo hard done by that he got a 4 week ban for his missdemener, you had players missing and apparently we had a full squad although I couldn't see Jackson, Loader or Parton/Freddy on the pitch.
If you look at the pressure put on your team in the final part of the game that got Irish in a position that, it would only take one mistake and the game would be gone, it should not be down to one man to lose the game where were the guards on the ruck, where were the guys making a Caterpillar at the ruck?
Myler wears an Irish shirt and was considered surplus at Northampton, but is pure class although he didn't play as well as he has done in the past.

Sorry it is a four game ban for Api, not 4 week.

Iíll second that. Not a very gracious response to a very fair comment by a Saints supporter who had also taken the trouble to provide a bit of pre-match intel on the practicalities of getting to the game on Friday. I, for one, found all the Saints supporters at the match to be a great bunch who took the result in good spirit.

Whilst I totally agreed with the first part of the post as it was accurate about Northampton and where the coaching staff are right now, there was no need to bring up the other details as mitigation for the result, I do apologise for the Myler part as a bit uncalled for on my behalf.
