Ben Loader is in talks with Irish for a new contract, and we will be losing Dave Porreki and saia faingaa, both returning to Australia.

Ben is a done deal

Shame if Porecki goes as he's been good for us and is arguably our best hooker despite being up against two internationals. I can see us potentially having a clean sweep there - hopefully Atkins will continue to step up but we do need some decent signings there.

Huge shame about Porecki if true. Seems an odd time for him to go, just as we're building some momentum and just as he is establishing himself as our best hooker. Always plays well and can see him having credentials for captaincy in the future.

He's come a long way since joining us.

Gutted about Poreki.

In my eyes we need to get at least 2 hookers. Preferably argentinian or SA. Hard nosed solid set piece dumper trucks.

My guess is that porecki sees this as his last chance to stake a claim for an Aussie call up. Canít blame him, itís just a shame weíre losing him as heís hitting his best form. I think Atkins will take one of the spots on offer.
Great to see one of our youngsters being reported as staying. What we need to remember is that guys like loader and OHC and maybe donnell will be negotiating new deals which means more money off the cap his time around so signing new fellas wonít be easy.

With these as guaranteed leavers, Iím guessing weíll be losing:
Brophy clews
Northcote green

With secrecy over contract lengths, these could all be wrong. Anyone able to shed some light on this?

Jimbo, reckon youíre list is pretty spot on, the only query in it would be Theo, as a home grown player he may be given a lesser money sort of deal.

We will defo be having a smaller squad next year and Iíve been told everyone who the management want to stay are either done deals or on contract still. The two sticky ones were Ben loader( which is now a done deal) and Franco.

Franco has been absolutely outstanding this year but has a young family and wants to get back to South Africa, on the clubs side his age/cost may work against him... in these times of heightened budget reviews and getting a younger cheaper option ala Chunya Munga who may be the future of the club.

There are no big signings this year as I understand it , but incoming signing will hopefully be next step up from your list , giving us a generally stronger squad.

Thanks Bill - thatís good to hear. Happy to build on what we have without any names for the sake of it.

Theo is an interesting one. He's had such a bad run with injury, you expect him to struggle to get renewed.

But there's clearly a really good player in there. That game back from injury, he was looking fantastic filling in at FB against Toulon, before promptly breaking again. Personally think he's worth a gamble, but as you say he can't expect it to be that lucrative. Guess it depends on whether the management see it the same way and if he wants to continue trying to make it as a pro rugby player.

Bill you might be right but from what Iíve heard and read is that there wonít be as many signings this time but nothing on the standard of signings.

Agree with that SirB. Think a small, high quality squad is the way to go. Not too much turnover, but overall with more leavers than joiners. Bring in some quality (non superstar) players and look to the future by offering a decent amount of senior academy deals to this year's crop of U18s.

Such a shame about Porecki. Good luck to him, excellent servant, sure there are reasons we don't know about.

Hooker's been strange for us, it's weird how many 2nd/3rd choice recently ex-Irish we've played against this year - I'm thinking Tom Cruse, Todd Gleave, Tom Woolenscroft and Curtis Langdon on Friday. Bit of a revolving door. Probably more I'm missing as well.

Agree that getting in a gun South African type alongside Atkins would be a good shout. Then, maybe a promising championship player or see who's leaving other prem clubs.

Massive shame re Poereki but he probably is chasing his dream of International honours so hope to see him back in a few years. Atkins is a worry though. At 90kg he is tiny for a pro hooker and would need to put on 15 to 20kg to bolster the front row. Heard that a few of the forwards were playing the Sale game with a stomach bug leading to vomiting and were very sick hence Kepu being out. Luckily we have two weeks for them all to recover.
