Totally aware of that although could have phrased it better that we would have Mafi vs either Franco or Simmons benching potentially.

Alot of it was talked about straight after the zoom meeting. So was old news before this evening.

But I'm pretty happy as signings go

Good prem fullback -check
Can play on wing if needed - check
Good goal kicker - check
Won't have a huge salary (compared to put aussie contingent) - check
Won't be unavailable during international periods - check.

Re: Transfer news?
Smudge21 28 July, 2020 23:18
Creevy is a very solid bit of business. Despite his age, he's still playing at a decent level. Plugs the gap left by porecki for the next year or two whilst atkins and cornish develop into (hopefully) premiership players!

Re: Transfer news?
Lazyboy346 28 July, 2020 23:23
Creevy would be an excellent signing as we've got good locks but need a capable hooker to boost all the set pieces now Porecki has left (and help develop Atkins). Only issue might be if he has a second passport so we can get him in the team alongside other big names.

Re: Transfer news?
franciscorrigan 29 July, 2020 01:18
Creevy spent a lot of time out last year with a serious shoulder injury, something he has been prone to in his career. I just hope he's fully fit. Great player with a big heart and has been known to play flanker occasionally too. Pretty mobile for a hooker. Will add some grunt to the pack, as long as he's not here just to top up his retirement fund, as he will be 36 in March next year. As regards the second passport, he's born and bred Argentinian, but the surname fits for an Irishman. (Sm63)

I had assumed Rob Simmons was going to be confirmed based on his wiki page winking smiley

Kerr looks exciting, so let's not knock him until we have seen him in action.

Re: Transfer news?
Lazyboy346 30 July, 2020 20:40
Admittedly a highlights reel but looks like a potentially very good back three player.

Decent boot, dominant tackler, jackals quite well. Has plenty of pace and a good offload. Probably will take time to get settled to XVs after playing lots of 7s but looks like he could be a pleasant surprise package.

Re: Transfer news?
Lazyboy346 31 July, 2020 10:00
Simmons a decent signing but Botha was great for us and not sure if we'll have as much go forward without him. Both our brief Botha signings

Re: Transfer news?
tonyh50 31 July, 2020 10:06
Cornish, Simmons, Homer, Kerr and if itís true Cheevey all look very interesting positive signings - Pity about Botha but Simmons looks like a good replacement (better than I thought we might get).
Genuinely excited about Cheevey if we get him really is a world class hooker (if he stays fit) reminds me of David P a dynamic going forward player who can perform both in the scrum and in the loose - fingers crossed he is coming to us.
Overall happier with the look of our squad or Brentford than I was a few weeks ago, really looking forward to next season.
And managed to get a good parking spot last night(Sm42)

Re: Transfer news?
rugbygibbo 31 July, 2020 10:16
The Creevy signing if true (and he announced he is leaving Jaguares on twitter today or so my broken Spanish believes) could be an even bigger coup than it looks. Think of what he can pass on to Cornish and Atkins even over a short term deal with all that nous. Rory Best was still performing well into his late 30s too (RWC aside) so will likely get good games from him.

Pretty good recruitment round if you ask me. Shame re Botha but thatís life.

Re: Transfer news?
tatthecraic2 31 July, 2020 10:52
Is it wrong im a bit miffed that Botha isn't returning. Sure Simmonds is a great signing as a 100 cap lock. But Both awas another level for us. He and Tuisue caused so much panic for opposition defenses.

Just hope simmonds is as dominant in the exchanges as botha or we only really have SOB and Tuisue who are world class contact merchants.

Re: Transfer news?
Blarney 31 July, 2020 11:01
Botha was excellent for us but, as others have said, no use crying over spilt milk. Simmons is a vastly better replacement than I thought we'd get at such short notice.

As for the other signings, I think Homer could still do a good job for us. Cornish seems like squad filler. Creevy (if true) could be excellent business for a season or two. I'm not sure about Kerr - when was the last time a 7s specialist managed to translate successfully to top-flight 15s? I cant think of one - the two games are just too different.

Re: Transfer news?
SirBurger 31 July, 2020 11:28
Ruaridh McChonochie made the England world cup squad, so a pretty recent example.

Agree on Botha, but Coleman and Kepu are also decent ball-carriers, as are Rogerson and Mafi. In short, he is a big loss, but I think the carrying can be spread pretty evenly around the pack going forwards.

Re: Transfer news?
AlecW 31 July, 2020 13:13
Seem to remember that Creevy was linked to LI around the time of the Paul Warwick f*ck-up (?early 2009?) and again a year or two later...

Fabulous player, big unit and if he stays fit / motivated he could give us 2-3 excellent years.

Re: Transfer news?

Creevy was great for Worcester in the short time he was with us. I highly doubt he'll be there just to top up the pension as he never came across that way with us, even though he played in the championship if memory serves.

How do you guys feel about your signing strategy? I remember Worcester tried buying in experienced test players from the SH a while ago and it didn't really work. Are you confident that your coaches will get them playing to their ability?

Re: Transfer news?
HMRH 01 August, 2020 12:26
I think it takes a season to find their feet. Having said that Coleman and Rona got into it quickly and Kepu was really starting to get going. Phipps still has his best to come. Botha was a beast from the off and Albert has improved a lot since he joined.

If Creevy joins Iíll have no doubts he can hit his straps early. My worry is that we will be lightweight until after Xmas

I love Dan Norton and his 7s exploits but I'm not sure they'll transfer - he's been known about for long enough that if he was good enough you'd've thought he would've been picked up by now..? Happy to be proved wrong obviously, maybe scavenging the 7s guys and system hit by Covid will turn out to be a nifty bit of business!

its another known name to a casual fan of whoever watched the Olympic 7's - good for the move to Brentford. if he can translate his try scoring form into 15's it would be a shrewd bit of business.

Re: Transfer news?
jimbo800 05 August, 2020 08:56
Thereís every chance he is at training but heís just there to keep fit is my guess. Itís quite normal for players to use clubs to rein if their usual training methods are unavailable.

Re: Transfer news?
franciscorrigan 05 August, 2020 08:56
I wonder if they have signed Norton because we have already broken Kerr in training? We seem to have an excess of speedsters and a bit lacking in back row grunt.

Do you think a casual fan of whoever watched the Olympic 7s four years ago will remember Dan Norton's name? I'm not so sure. Also his try scoring form is indeed incredible, and he is head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to all-time tries (75 ahead of second-placed Collins Injera), but he broke the record back in 2017 so his try scoring form has been incredible for quite some time. There's a reason why Ben Gollings never really translated his undoubted ability into top-level 15's. Like I said, happy to be proved wrong though, and nifty bits of business are always welcome.

Re: Transfer news?
nimblehippo 05 August, 2020 10:03
True about gollings, but the transition for finishers is easier - Gollings was more creative. I suspect Norton would do well on the wing, itís just that wing is probably our best stocked position.

Where did the rumour that Kerr is crocked come from and how bad is it?

Re: Transfer news?
shimmieandshake 05 August, 2020 13:23
It would make sense if Norton was in the mix before Kerr injury.

Initially, the report from the Zoom call was that people thought Dec said we're signing three 'back row' players. Someone else has since mentioned - I think on the other board - that this was confused, , and it's actually three 'back three' players, including Homer.

If it was Homer, Kerr, Norton - there's your three.

I second Gibbo's question; any word on what happened to Kerr?
