Phipps and Jackson

Great partnership developing between Nick and Paddy, even Austin Healey likes them!

Meehan has slowed the pass down way too much.
Phipps and Jackson looked so good together.

Agree, Tom,..

Hate him, or hate him, but little Oz does know a thing or two about scrum half play and he spotted that after about two phases. Much slower than Phipps / takes a step when not necessary / looks to find where his man is, rather than a quick glance to check and fire it out...

Ah well...

Encouraging performance, though.

Totally Agree AlecW.
That was Phipps best performance for us hopefully that partnership with Jackson will get better and better.
Hopefully those 2 will start together in the Worcester game.

I mentioned this on another thread but for all the slick handling of Phipps and Jackson it's comes to nothing if you lack midfield creativity like we did today. We can't just keep relying on the forwards to punch the holes.

Phipps and Jackson are getting the team into the right areas of the pitch but there was no creativity outside them. Hepatema had an ok game but Williams was trying to punch holes every time the ball came to him. I personally think we missed Rona today so hopefully have him back in for the Quins and Worcester games.

I thought Matt Williams had a good game and consistently made some hard yards. But he and Terry are too similar to play together.

In all honesty thatís Phipps only really good performance since heís arrived. Letís hope itís a turning point for both him and us.

Totally off topic now but CBA to start a new Thread.
Just a quick question.
Anyone know when Simmons will arrive? As the Tahs have now been pushed out of their play off place.
Hopefully he will be available for at least the Exeter and Bristol game

Without genuine crowd noise, it was easy to hear Phipps bossing the game. No matter what was happening on the pitch you could hear him constantly directing players, calling plays and talking to the ref - exactly what you need from your 9.

Also like that Jackson wasn't afraid to attack the line when needed - if we had a big centre running off his shoulder it would cause opposition a lot of problems.

It's not even up for debate now Phipps has to be 1st choice and Brand 2nd choice I'm not a fan of Meehan at all tbh

Think there might still be a debate. Phipps has just had his first really good game for us, out of nine or ten, and Brand's played about 60 minutes of Premiership rugby.

Agreed, letís not forget that during Meehanís time at the club heís still been our best scrum half. He bosses the forwards around well and shows a lot more gumption than most LI scrum halves in recent memory.

He is also prone to some seriously bad judgement calls that nearly always cost us points.

Caolan Englefield is a better bet than Brand.

Paddym may well be right. Englefield looked good against Sarries in his half hour or so. Seems to be more vocal and bossy than Brand, which is good in a 9. Both age grade internationals and both have talent, so it will be interesting to see which develops into the better player. One, or both will probably be the future. Meehan and Phipps won't be here for too many seasons more(Sm63)

Agree with most above, Phipps best game for us. We ceased to be a threat when he came off; box kicking to May and R-Zamitt?.
Plenty of possession but lacked in midfield, short on ideas or an attack coach?

Meehan is too slow!! Even the berk Austin Healy pointed out the loss of pace when he came on compared to Phipps.
