Re: Ex v LI

Blimey, Paddy missing that conversion is not good. Pretty sure many of us could kick that with our eyes closed 🤦🏻‍♂️

Re: Ex v LI

OMG Jackson misses a conversion front nearly in front.

Completely useless. Get Smyler back.

Re: Ex v LI

Jackson finally kicks a decent effort, and 12-15 at HT.

Re: Ex v LI
franciscorrigan 30 September, 2020 18:22
At a conservative estimate we should be at least a try and a couple of kicks more on the scoreboard ie about another 10-12 points at least. We could easily have been out of sight by now and the missed chances will almost certainly come back to bite us.(Sm63)

Really? Comparing on the basis of one pass? Phipps is a bit better, he is still not exactly brilliant.

If we are going to complain about scrum-halves we should be talking about Townsend's haircut. There is no excuse for that.

Re: Ex v LI
Blarney 30 September, 2020 19:32
A mixed bag but, given where we've been at previously, credit has to go to the team for holding out for the win.

Forwards very good, particularly Albert (again), Nott (again) and Creevy (again). Also thought Lovejoy made some important contributions.

Backs still look disjointed, though good to see Rona back on form and OHC continues to show his defensive qualities out wide.

With some more consistency from our 9s and a running threat brought in at 12 we have the tools for a really good backline.

Re: Ex v LI
Shawshank 30 September, 2020 19:35
Finally had the rub of the green with a ref.

Forwards were excellent apart from in the line out, esp. defensively.

Backs still very disjointed. Very poor kicking from PJ, esp in failing to get near their line with so many touch kicks to the corner.

Win should do the world of good, esp. for the youngsters who must have been esp. depressed over the losses.

Still loads to do to be competitive nest season.

Re: Ex v LI
Tom1215 30 September, 2020 19:35
To not finish in the 11th position is a huge boost for next season.
Donít care what team Exeter put out we beat Exeter chiefs itís been a while since we could say that.
Love the effort and push Gus Creevy brings to every game. Heís my player of the (post lockdown) season.
Love that bloke!!!
Come on you irish!!!

Re: Ex v LI
Blarney 30 September, 2020 19:39
By the by, with Tigers losing and Wuss winning we are now confirmed to finish 10th (11th if you ignore Sarries). If you assume that we would have performed a bit better over the last few weeks if we'd had something on the line then K&K have delivered exactly what they needed to this season...prem survival. Our early season promise has made recent games disappointing but we all would have taken 11th before the season started.

Now begins the real work, growing as a team and ensuring 10th or better next season.

The real shame of Sarries cheating is that we are denied the hilarity of Leicester being relegated 😄

Exile_Dave 30 September, 2020 19:42

To be fair to Seb, he's probably not far off retirement. He came back to help us out and has certainly put the effort in but I wouldn't be surprised to see him trundle around in the championship for a season or two before calling it quits.

My apologies to all, just looked at previous news clips that stated he was signed by Falcons on a one year deal back in 2019.

As Blarney suggested, he might spend a couple of years in the Championship, I wonder if it could be with Ealing?

Re: Ex v LI
SixNineOne 30 September, 2020 22:33
The fact that we won makes it much easier to reflect on the good performances that were put in today. I think George Nott must be our most improved player of the post lockdown season even if heís more of a 6 than a lock, and Matt Cornish is shaping up to be pretty useful too. Gus Creevy is just awesome - the energy, drive and leadership he brings is so badly needed. Ollie Hoskins put in another big shift, Lovejoy made an impact and both Elrington and WGC are making good progress. The back row looked slightly less impressive - too many errors for my liking. Our real problem is in the backs, where we look disjointed and a bit clueless, relying on individual sparks like Ben Loaderís break. Watching Ollie DeVoto today just highlighted how we are crying out for a strong, skilful 12. On their day Terrence H or TBC might be able to fill that role, but at the moment it all feels like the back line has not gelled as a unit and is still showing an alarming lack of attacking flair in the opposition half.

Re: Ex v LI
franciscorrigan 30 September, 2020 23:01
I know it hasn't been a great season results wise, but how long has it been since we last won four games away from home in the Prem? Definitely would have to go back over ten years or more. I would guess 2008-2009.(Sm63)

Four away wins and one away draw sounds good until you start looking at our home record, with only two wins so far. Iíve never felt that MadStad gave us much of a home advantage, and the opposition kickers always seemed to find it alarmingly easy to bisect the posts there. Letís hope we can begin to turn the Brentford Community Stadium into a real home fortress like so many other clubs have done with their home grounds.
