Everyone has their own opinion (and is entitled to of course), but I think this is ridiculous

I will be signing

What a ridiculous campaign to havwe the boards taken down. They are no more of an eyesore than a lot of the things you see on the south circular. Will be signing

One3 of the tactics of the campaign to take down the ads is apparently "to shame the advertosers". Says all you need to know really. Spiteful, petty, small-minded individuals.

Disgraceful. Anyone who ever played rugby at school will know how much rosslyn park have done for grass roots rugby, and in these days of rising obesity and lack of school playing fields they are an absolute beacon. Will be signing and circulating.

They get my support for their organisation and running of the Middlesex U12 Championship this season alone. They're an asset to the wider rugby community.

Ah, NIMBYs...

To be honest, I drove into London last weekend, up the A3, and was surprised by the proliferation of digital billboards since I moved out to leafy Surrey a few years ago. They are quite distracting, being bright and animated.

I used to work in advertising (sorry), so I know that such installations can earn large amounts of money, and I'm sure that Rosslyn Park put said money to good use in the community. But it's an area I'd prefer stricter planning laws in.

Very innovative from RP though; good luck to them

I'm probably with Insert on this, but it would have been better if Rosslyn Park had shown what the old lady (campaign? really? doing quite well!) was upset about.

Chief in peace, Just seen this on the protesters website

Quote:
Takedowntheads is a campaign group formed to resist the steady influx of digital advertising screens into our local landscapes. We started in response to Rosslyn Park Rugby Club’s installation of three huge screens in South West London, and have come to realise that there is a much wider problem.

This really is 'I don't like it so lets ban it' type of thinking, Also I take it this person has never been to the States...

Should strap them to a chair in front of them, a la Clockwork Orange!!!

Re: Rosslyn Park in trouble???
ChiddQuin 31 May, 2018 11:22
It would make more sense for them to campaign for stricter planning laws rather than taking it out on RP who have done everything they could by the sound of it to not only keep within the law but also take local resdients views into account.

I've signed.

A little digging shows that the lady in question is actually relatively young (I'd guess she's in her 30s by the photo of her on LinkedIn) and she's an Estate Agent (no doubt the reason why she's started the campaign up in order to protect her business).

A little more digging shows she's 61.

Apologies, I was mistaken! She is indeed older than I had understood.

And the relevance of her gender or age is - what, precisely?

Odd question.

Is it? Whoever is behind it is clearly a nimby moron.

Not sure age or gender is a bar to being a @#$%&.

Fearless Fred 02 June, 2018 10:50
I think it's more the fact that she's works for an estate agent that has a bearing on this.

I wouldn't say she's clearly a moron, she just has a different point of view. But I don't know why mentioning her gender or age needs to be questioned.

I think they were wondering what difference it makes to the campaign?

Re: Rosslyn Park in trouble???
Quinten Poulsen 02 June, 2018 11:24
I don't think it makes any difference and I don't think it was being suggested that it did.

This is a temporary measure by Roslyn Park until they can raise enough funding to update their facilities, is this correct? If so it’s pretty mean by the objectors. If it’s a permanent fixture then they might have more of a point.

Re: Rosslyn Park in trouble???
Camquin 04 June, 2018 08:43
The current planning application is for temporary sign, which funds the 3g pitch and other necessary work.

However, I suspect they may apply for an extension - it would be a great way to fund the aims of the club to offer more rugby to more people, or to press for a championship challenge.

However, if they were told to take it down tomorrow, I suspect the rugby world would find a way to raise the funds to keep them alive.

But while the objector has every right to object in principal to the signs - her ad hominem attacks on the club go to far. RP has done every thing it can to act properly on this.

This shows everything that is wrong with the power of social media and a vocal minority.

Nothing on facebook or twitter by them has been liked or shared more than a few times, and their petitions have a pathetically small number of signatures. Yet companies who are so scared of bad social media messages and offending people withdraw ads and apologise purely on the back of a minescule amount of people complaining writing angry emails and tweets.

All the while the petition to support Rosslyn Park has almost 10,000 signatures.

Madness

Piece about Rosslyn Park in The Torygraph today by Daniel Schofield.

It's all about the fact that an all weather pitch is essential for Park's survival.
