Red to Aus 8 after 2 mins for dangerous high tackle. England well charge leading 42-12 at ht with tries for dingers and sleightholme.

If only they had got the bonus point against Italy....

Would still have been a point short of qualification - like New Zealand.

If the final score had remained the half time score when I posted and England had got the fourth try v Italy then England would have qualified for the semis as pool winner due to all teams being on 10 points and England having the best points difference.

However despite the red card Australia got the 4 try bonus point in the 2nd half to take them to 11 points.

England didn't deserve to make the semis courtesy of playing poorly by their normal Under 20 standards and failing to get the bonus point v Italy and allowing Oz to score 5 tries. The mindless red card v Ireland with the game in the balance was a particular low.

England have been lacklustre and made a lot of errors so no complaints we didn't qualify.

I was disappointed with the half back pairing in the Italian match which was presumably a coaching decision. De Glanville is far better at 15 than 10 and proved that in the game against Australia. And why drop Sleightholme to the bench having scored 2 great tries against Ireland? He had to wait until 2 minutes before full time to even get on the pitch against Italy.
Presumably Bates wanted to give all his squad some game time but it was still surprising to me that Dingwall didn't get much more than 55-60 minutes in any of the 3 games so far.
