How the heck was that advantage over for the first try!.. The biaised O'Driscoll obviously didn't see a lot wrong with it

Re: Leinster v Saints

seems the ref has decided there are 2 sets of laws already

14-0 down after 5 mins. Boy is this gonna be a long evening.

Re: Leinster v Saints

Come on Saints
Wake up
Defence is being severely tested

Re: Leinster v Saints
JohnI 14 December, 2019 17:25
Totally agree that was a ridiculous decision not to give the advantage but the second try within6 minutes showing this could be as bad as the last outing in Dublin.

Re: Leinster v Saints
TheGent 14 December, 2019 17:27
Only ourselves to blame unfortunately.

Symons charge down, T tackle in the air, Api knock on and now a high tackle for 3 more points.

We also have no defense and we desperately need to get a high quality defense coach in asap funds allowing.

Re: Leinster v Saints
Aberavon Wizard 14 December, 2019 17:27
Sloppy kick by Symons, Api knock on, High tackle by Woody...................basics, basics, basics.

Re: Leinster v Saints
JohnI 14 December, 2019 17:29
Tackling and defence so far is atrocious and will cost us dearly today.

Re: Leinster v Saints

Re: Leinster v Saints
Coltnet 14 December, 2019 17:37
Would really just love for us to throw it about. If we play a structured game we should lose anyway. Try the unexpected!

Re: Leinster v Saints

Tuala - stupid!

Re: Leinster v Saints
JohnI 14 December, 2019 17:40
Stupidity by Tuala but this referee is pants and a bit of a joke. A severe talking to needed but he wants a yellow card and a try to follow. Going to get nothing from this today at all.

Re: Leinster v Saints

Couldn't disagree more with "only ourselves to blame". We've been v poor defensively and with our discipline but I've never seen an advantage over like that before and that yellow is not at all consistent with other decisions on shirt pulling.

Re: Leinster v Saints
Dragonboy 14 December, 2019 17:42
Iím finding this embarrassing because of ODriscolls man crush on Ringrose and his purring over anything blue.

I assume Alex Coles was injured or failed a HIA as Sean Bean has been on since the first try but hasnít rated a mention by commentators.

I wonder what Leinster fans make of things bearing in mind that Saints are clear leaders of the Premiership ?

Re: Leinster v Saints

Wood looked as if he was ok from behind but Gibson looked to still be holding on but the referee insisted he told wood to release.

Re: Leinster v Saints
TheGent 14 December, 2019 17:56
We've conceded 8 pens already with our captain giving away 3. Majority of them are consistent with most refs. Few 50-50s against us but you always get that away.

We can't beat top teams with the amount of mistakes were making and defensive issues present so any complaining about the ref is moot imo.

Re: Leinster v Saints

Notwithstanding Saints mistakes and errors, we also have a young referee intimidated by the occasion and as we have seen many times before he is giving pretty much everything to the dominant side rather than judging each situation on its own merits. Fact of life with Pro14 referees apart from Owens.

one sided refs help create momentum with penalties and resulting field position. we are 2nd best by some distance but it does make a difference.

Good try from sleights and keeps us a little in the game. With this 15 picked we were unlikely to be on top in Dublin but if we can get a point or two out of this then that is a result, just no injuries please!

Good response from Saints at the end and we've been good in attack despite discipline and defence but Leinster have been fantastic again. Hoping for four tries - that would be a good outcome and make a big difference to our chances.

We have more than enough to make a real game of this if we improve the basics. Boyds ethos has literally been we can always win no matter whos selected so to accept defeat before the ball is kicked is pointless.

Watching on C4 and ref clearly shouted "tackle release" several times before pinging wood.

FWIW I thought Ludlam's turnover just before was good

Re: Leinster v Saints
Whiston Saint 14 December, 2019 18:18
I am not sure what people expect.
Saints have reserves at 15, 14, 12, 9, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. Some of them are 3rd or 4th choice in their position and others like Lewis are playing out of position. The only likely starters given a full squad would be Big T, Biggar, Proctor and Lewis.

Leinster have a virtually full side, many of whom only play key games. It is just not a level playing field.

Re: Leinster v Saints

Tbf its a good job you're not coaching as rugby isn't played on paper.

Hopefully we can build on the improvement we brought to the end of the 1st half and make a game of it.

Re: Leinster v Saints
JohnI 14 December, 2019 18:23
Doing the same as last week in some ways. Some real good play up into their 22 and coming away with nothing following handling errors and then a try at the other end.

Re: Leinster v Saints

Can we just leave Europe to the Irish and French to play? Wales do nothing, Scotland do nothing, and the English , minus Saracens, have to put out 2nd teams just to survive player burnout and accommodate for injuries.

Itís just a burden Rather than an enjoyable and fair crack at winning anything.

Games like this, year after year, just de-rail the season, are painful to watch and leave you hoping we just donít get any more injuries that ruin the prem campaign.

Overall a waste of time for any English club with the salary cap and the prem to deal with.
Really getting bored of these European tournaments. This isnít taking anything away from Leinster, theyíre a class team but theyíre basically Ireland 1st 15 and played half the games of our lads.

Waste of time walking out the changing rooms.

Even if we battle back and win, do we wanna be playing in quarters and semis later in the year when trying to manage a squad to challenge for the prem cup?
Just puts us at a disadvantage, seems pointless with our resources trying.

Really does prove a point the only team capable of competing in both competitions are the team just fined 5 million for cheating to get there.

Is their no TMO in the Heineken Cup ?

Re: Leinster v Saints
JohnI 14 December, 2019 18:35
Referee totally useless. Biggar tackled before the ball got to him but referee right there. He is totally useless!. He was right there and it takes the TMO to alert him to it! Useless!

Re: Leinster v Saints

Sobering for us but we had a young team with lots of heart against a brilliant and v experienced Leinster team.

they really need to look at the refereeing: either I) get better refs (but it's pretty difficult to ref rugby on your own) ii) accept it's too complex and therefore make more use of multiple refs and team challenges like they do in the NFL iii) simplify the game so it can be reffed more easily.

No other professional sport would accept this standard of referring.

Re: Leinster v Saints

Overall referee was shocking and not what is required at this level of rugby however we did exactly the same as last week albeit with a probably not as experienced side and had some very good play up to their 22 but failed to convert those visits into points due to a strong defence by Leinster and some unforced and forced errors. Our defence needs to improve to stay in with a chance of not just this competition but also in our upcoming games.
More injuries to add to the growing list is a concern and could impact on us in the next few games.

Re: Leinster v Saints

An amazing experience for some of the new/young players
they will improve because of this game

I expect we will lose a good few players end of this season and see some quality join to cover deficiencies
