Full time 27-30. Slack play at kick-off and missed kicks cost us dear.

4 decent tries scored, still top of the table but what a total disappointment. Right from the warm up when the "crowd" put me in mind of the sort of attendance we used to get when we played Bucharest in the cup on a freezing Sunday in January (although there can't even have been that many in the ground tonight) it just didn't have a good feeling tonight. LS were much better then us and deserved to win the game and some of our play was tosh although by no means the worst we have seen over the past 3 or 4 years - the penalty we gave away at the lineout on their line in the second half just seemed dull play to me, some of the kicking out of hand was rubbish, we missed too many penalty attempts but it was the failure to gather the re-start at the end that took the biscuit and ultimately lost us the game as it lead to the penalty. This was a big test for us and we failed. I thought Phil Nielsen played really well though. The problem for me is that I actually have some quite high expectation that we will do well this season and maybe even get promoted. I like the coach and we have signed some good players so the disappointment when it goes wrong is all the more annoying. I just hope we can bounce back next week.

Tonight highlighted a problem that existed for much of last season, a decent class opponent only served to expose it more than in the recent wins.
It takes us an age to recycle the ball at contact areas, consequently, even during longer periods of possession we seem to be attacking with static ball. This was easy to defend and gave the Scotish defence time to reset and organise. There was a period of about 10 minutes in the second half when we were camped in their 22 where pedestrian doesn't come close. With the forwards going as well as they are we should be able to maintain more momentum than this. It's no good having a strong back three if we are rarely on the front foot
Hodgson wasn't as assured as I thought he might be. Stegman had his best game so far and Jonah is looking very threatening, they do however need quicker ball.

First game i can honestly say I never noticed the ref, did seem a very flat game in parts but beaten by a better team on the night no complaints from me and LS kicker was lethal when given chance, as with a lot of last year score points concede kick able penalties straight from restart, no yellows last night by lack of discipline cost us at the end after most of hard work had been done to get back in the game

I'd like to add poor decisions. We had penalty after penalty in their 22 with 27 minutes of the second half left and went for corner after corner 12 minutes later without a score Sottish got a penalty and cleared their lines. points would have left us 2 points adrift with plenty of time to get back into their end again. The best team won no doubt about that, A flat game with no atmosphere.

I commend the club in doing all they could in making this match attractive, but in retrospect, they were trying to push water uphill. Given the fantastic amount of publicity the RWC has had, showing three matches live that day on free to air TV (repeat free-to-air, not Sky or BT) meant that a live "second division" match was never going to attract fans from what was already rugby overload. The effort of getting from Elland Road to Headingley in time to watch the match was something only the faithful did.

Sadly tumbleweed and no atmosphere detracted from what should have been a super match. We effectively lost home advantage.

That's really disappointing to hear as, after years of rubbish on field decision making, I felt we were improving in that area.

Who was calling the shots at that point? Buzz or was Chris Jones on the field at that stage?

True enough, the noisiest people in the north stand by some distance were the LS contingent. In fact a couple of them didn't pause for breath for the full 80 minutes.

If you have to lose do so with 2 points. Disappointing but on the cards after the ealing performance.
