11th June 2004 (8:56pm) - Sonny Parkers' future was finally settled this afternoon when Neath-Swansea Ospreys announced they had captured the centres signature.

Parker had been a target for the Glamorgan side ever since he became a free agent following the Warriors demise, but with the New Zealand born centres anger at how his former region had been treated, he was understandably reluctant to remain in Wales.

However it appeared Parker, who was reputably being courted by a hand full of Zurich premiership also, had a change of heart after being convinced that Ospreys who have qualified for next seasons Heineken cup, have a secure financial backing according to Ospreys team manager Derwyn Jones;

Keeping Sonny in Welsh rugby has been a challenge as he was disillusioned in the wake of the Warriors' demise," team manager Derwyn Jones said.

"We were aware he was being courted by Sale, Saracens and Gloucester."

"Sonny was keen to join a club that could offer him stability on and off the pitch," Jones added.

"At the end of the day he has joined us for rugby reasons and it is clear from the meetings we have had that his attitude and values are in line with what we are about at the Ospreys.

"He is one of the current Welsh internationals who would be guaranteed a place in any side and he will bring additional quality and experience to our back line.

"We are looking forward to next season in an optimistic frame of mind, with a strengthened and highly competitive squad now substantially in place."
