That'll do! Chiefs in top four
Well after one of those ugly losing runs we made up for lost time by kicking Cavaleri Prato’s behinds all the way back to Italy. Follow that up with a great comeback up north and we were back in business again.
So, back down to Sandy Park and new guys Worcester were in town. They weren’t having such a good first season though but anyone who watched the Saxons during the summer knows what Miles Benjamin can do. I was optimistic though and the fact is, the midtable is so tight that a slipup now could be costly.
So, off to catch the 78, chat with old guy John and then we’re off once more. My grandfather couldn’t make this one so it was simply a case of collect programme, head to North West Terrace and then see what happens.
Well it didn’t take long for the Chiefs to remind Worcester whose house they were in and Mieres slotted an opening penalty pretty easy. Then however, Worcester kicker Joe Carlisle fired off a pen then bounced off the crossbar and yet best I could tell, still went in! The flags went up anyway. After that...well the visitors lost a guy to a bad injury and then the Chiefs were down our end looking for a try. Slight problem Worcester came up with a stop, a bit of an iffy stop but the ref was happy for them to get away with it. Next thing we know though the game was down the other end(with Benjamin predictably causing us a serious headache) and we found ourselves dodging a bullet. Still, the Chiefs retook the lead through another Mieres pen, Carlisle then levelled in similar fashion before our Argie fly half gave us the lead once again. Half time.
I went off to chat with my uncle and cousin, it was obviously an iffy match and it reminded me of the rumble with Leeds here last season. Given that my uncle had been thinking along the lines of a WBP, you had to wonder where the tries would be coming from.
At the start of the second half the Chiefs once again surged forward but blew a big opportunity for a try. Eventually though Mieres did manage to slot another pen. Sooner or later though we were going to get a try right? Well best I could tell we did everything but get the ball over the line. Mieres did slot another pen though.
Ultimately though that was as good as it got for the Chiefs in terms of try opportunities with the back end of the match turning out to be a purely defensive effort, interrupted by a streaker who sought and got refuge from the stewards thanks to a bunch of probably sloshed nutters in the North West.
As it was Andy Goode had come on for Wrcester and he slotted a pen near the end. Too little too late for them though.
It was not a classic but it was a job done, which I have no reason to complain about. And finding us in the top four of the Premiership table after this was a bit of a “pinch yourself” moment.

Some said before the game that this could be a banana skin. where would we be had we lost? I will leave that up to the stattos. Instead we see ourselves with our heads above the clouds. Feel dizzy anyone?
There have been those who "poo-pooed" Second Season syndrome but it can have a dramatic effect. The chiefs, however, have proved, engine room, back room and sixteent man that we are not going to accept probability, we WILL make our own destiny. some may affect it but they won't change it.
