News: Saints vs Sarries opener for the LV= Cup - Preview

I really can’t believe this – 6 games into this year, and we have not yet played one of our usual 19 games against our Southern neighbours.  The schedulers must be slipping.. Welcome to Saracens supporters, The good landladies of the town will not be changing the bed linen (how do you repel boarders – Goon shows passim), but you will be welcome at the Gardens sans drums and horns, but with voice and heart

LV= (Liverpool Victoria for us oldies) Cup -  Round 1

Northampton Saints vs. Saracens , Franklins Gardens 

Saturday 15th October 3:00pm

 

The LV= cup competition is a strange beast, English and Welsh top tier clubs, competing for a place in Europe. “This tournament offers an excellent platform for young, up and coming players to shine and foster the next generation of talented players.”, but is the most generous of all the national competitions, paying more than the big cups, and offering a fast track into the Heineken cup. If I were Liverpool Vic, who have just renewed for another 4 years, I would like to see a better return for my money in respect of the respect, and structure, of this competition.

 

So how will Saints and Saracens play this – in the spirit intended or the best team for the HC qualification? Both sides have players who are “World cupped”. Not having paid much attention to the Watford team’s Aviva progress this season, I an uncertain as to how to read their intentions, however in past years they have fielded a young side, and I see no reason that they would change for this season. Saints on the other hand, following a stuttering (shome undershatetement shurely –Ed), will, I feel, target the LV= cup aggressively with the strongest side practicable. I expect to see a similar side to last week’s starting lineup, with a strong bench of the “lightly used” World Cup players. Saints have a dismal recent home (and away) record against Saracens, and so I expect the mental pressure to be high, and the side that, albeit not without error, showed Exeter the way home last weekend fighting hard to cement their positions in the side now the Antipodean travellers are home.

So based on the above, I predict an tight game, but Saints to win at the death, removing the Simian from the collective Umerus Humerus and setting the club up for the visit to Ospreys next week.

 

 I will leave the prediction of the side to all those who know better, but I expect to see Haywood, Armstrong, Wood and possibly Sempere at some stage and Saints to win by 6!

No Rich, I honestly had forgotten Saints were playing at FG - I thought they were playingt down in Bridgend this weekend!.. but, having said that - yes, I will be very obnoxious if we reach the World Cup final..

Good preview COYSDC. Robert Wales have my support

1) because of the entertaining rugby they are playing which unlike the turgid leaden England performance is like comparing Champagne to flat coke......and!
