Chris's Corinthian Effort for SWH4 pt 2

The Winter Hill Challenge Sunday 2nd October.
 
Following in the footsteps of SWH4 we decided that there should be a short and a long walk. The short walk to the top of the hill and back the longer one down the other side and round back to school.
 
I opened school at 11 and soon afterwards my staff started to arrive to help out. The weather was much better than promised and all looked well. Asda had secured a few pounds of my hard earned money for 130 chocolate bars and 48 bottles of water......just in case! All we needed now were the walkers to turn up as they had promised.
 
Turn up they did! We started ticking them off and then adding names! The playground was full. We set off after a few final reminders about keeping safe and keeping to the footpaths. As we set off I realise that our long crocodile stretched half way through the village. By the time we reached the footpath to the Hill we were spread out about half a mile. We all trooped up the hill and within an hour everyone was at the top, even three of the  year olds had managed it. Bilbo The dog found the first part very easy, which was good as he had been sponsored for £100!
 
The butties came out and right on cue "The Mountain Rescue Team" arrived as arranged. They brought tea and coffee and let the children sit in their Land Rover. We had the picture to prove we had made it.
 
At this point our party Split into two, The short walkers returned down the hill lead by my deputy Michelle, they did that in just 30 minutes! Meanwhile the long walkers headed towards the rain clouds and a further 5 miles.
 
We met up with the Mountain Rescue Team ago and thanked them or their support. The next stop...............The ice cream farm! Should have asked for a cut, wasn't sure which was bigger the ice creams or the children?
 
Happily refreshed we continued to the next stage, through newly created paths, I was thinking that this would be the hard section with the children starting to get tired. Need not have worried as they ran off to play tig! When we reached the main road again to walk on the pavement back to village the children had to return to their family groups. Next stop The Wilton Arms. Very tempted as I had stopped the last few weeks on the reccy trips, this time was to use their facilities, thanks to them for allowing it.
 
The final  2 miles was along the road and it was here that the drizzled started, nothing much, just meant I put the saintly brolly up. About 4 hours after we set off we had all arrived back or had been accounted for. Everyone had really enjoyed the walk and many parents were hoping that the walk becomes an annual event. It had been a success as so many people had turned up. I need to mention my special staff who turned up on a Sunday to walk and to help, I certainly owe them!
 
I had hoped it would also be a financial success, hoping to raise about £500, that would be an average of £10 a family......in fact I had it wrong, very wrong!  On Friday the sponsor forms had indicated £550, Sunday, well, that was another £1100 and several sponsor forms not in. The wrist bands have done well, selling over 60 so far. That means that we could just be getting close to £2000, I wonderful start to the SWH4 total.
