New Decade Beckons

By Blues Brother
January 10 2020

Mike Rayer will be hoping that a new year and new decade inspire his troops. The last decade went  out with absolutely no bang at all after a start to the season none of us saw coming after the success of previous seasons.

Scottish at the Athletic Ground are the appropriate New Year opposition on Friday night and we make five changes as we look for a line-up which can produce a winning formula.

Peter Lydon comes straight in at full-back with Sarries scrum half Alex Day also starting

Ryan Hutler is back on the wing and up front Jacob Fields and Ed Taylor return to the side.

Blues: 15 Pete Lydon, 14  Ryan Hutler, 13  Rich Lane, 12 Oskar Hirskyj-Douglas,11 Dean Adamson, 10 Will Hooley, 9 Alex Day, 1 Sean McCarthy (Capt), 2  Jacob Fields, 3 Henry Paul , 4  Jordan Onojaife, 5  Ed Taylor, 6  Dan Temm, 7 Joe Atkinson , 8  lafoti Fa’osiliva

Reps:  Robbie Smith,  Joe Wrafter, Alex Penny, Oli Curry,  Josh Buggea,  Grayson Hart, Sam Leeming,  Matt Worley

That was a fine performance by the Blues. Adding quality players in key positions and returning reliables like Adamson did the trick. Scottish were a threat throughout with a well organised rolling maul, however the sharpness of our backs picked up on any loose play and ran in the tries. Hutlerís was a peach, I will need to see footage of how he picked up the ball, as it was on the other side from where I was standing, it seemed to come from nothing, the pace he made was blistering. Day deservedly was MOM, a real pain to LS. Lyndon looks commanding at full back, with a hell of a boot on him. Onwards and upwards.

I thought Ryan's try came from a ball from Alex Day.

Great team performance and really glad I made the trip, to come back from 14.0 down showed great character. Alex Day deserved MOM he was awesome all night, Pete Lyndon looked decent as did Rich Lane at centre.

Thatís an interesting stat just there, use the example of the football club I follow - Southampton were 2nd from bottom and are now 12th after stringing a few good results together. Iím of the opinion that if we finish in the top half of the league this season itíll be a good one
