Saints V Quins MoTM - Mr Dependable runs away with it

It had to happen eventually!  We Saints fans have been swept along on a wave of euphoria this season as win after win was racked up with only a defeat away at Sarries to mar that progress.  We sat top of the Premiership, top of our Heineken Cup pool and bottom of the LV cup pool (I still struggle with that concept – unbeaten but bottom) but yet the signs were there that all was not maybe as it should be.  Recent performances were good but not of the standard that had been set so perhaps a reverse at home was in the wings.

Can you pick a MoTM as Saints were beaten at home by Quins?

Having watched the game away at Quins I thought we were very lucky that day to come away with a win.  They seem to have a very together team and looking at their results they are putting together a run which will see them near the top of the league – so perhaps it was not surprising that they offered such a strong challenge to a pack that has driven most before them so far this season.

The game itself was largely forgettable.  It is a week later and I cannot remember too much from the game apart from that nagging feeling that we should have had enough nous to win.  Quins were down to 13 for the first ten minutes of the second half.  Surely we could make the spaces, open the gaps, score the points to put this game away.  Well the sorry answer was that we didn’t and couldn’t.  That ten minutes defined the game.  After that point the belief was with the Quins and not with the Saints.  Eventually you have to say Quins ran out worthy winners.

It was also a game for which you could not be bothered to vote in the numbers from previous weeks.  I sort of understand that as it was that sort of game.  I do however thank all 68 of you who did vote.

So, who caught the eye?

I have been doing the Man of the Match segment on this web site for a number of years now and I cannot recall such a one sided result ever.  There was only one player that got more than 10% of the votes.  That player in fact got almost 84% of the votes!  Yes that is right 84%!  That is a truely stunning percentage.  Now we have been chatting about how he is Mr Dependable well this shows that and it fact it his second win on the trot.

Step up Roger Wilson.  With this win he now also takes the outright lead with three MoTM wins so far this season.

Players Used

So far this season we have still used 31 different players.  I am getting worried about how many games some of the top players have started.  I am not sure we can keep this up.

Thanks Phil,

I can see that it is being read but I wonder what I need to write to elicit responses from those readers.

Great work again Tim - your patient analysis is one of my favourite bits of reading between matches.

I get the feeling we will be seeing a quite a few of the bottom end of your list of 31 players in the coming weeks.
