MoTM: Saints lose again - Gloucester home!

You know it isn’t that long since this game was played, I was on the wagon so absolutely sober so it is strange how little I can remember of it.  I wonder if I am suffering from some sort of new medical condition called Saints Alzheimer.  This, useful at this point of the season, is the ability to forget dreadful performances as if they never happened.  I suggest a few of us were probably using alcohol to help induce this state of affairs as well.

Who was your MoTM as Saints came up short - again - at home against Gloucester?

As I say I remember very little about the game apart from one player who I shall be discussing below so I have had to go back to the match reports to remind myself.  Reading the report I unfortunately now remember some of it.  There was may running through most of the Saints defence – it felt like he did this several times – with no one laying a hand on him.  Where oh where was the stalwart defence we had seen earlier in the season.  Ok so we scored a try by Tonks but to be honest we were lucky to get a bonus point.  Yes there was a lot of huff and puff from the forwards but there was so little finesse on display.  I suppose I have seen worse performances from Saints but after the last couple of seasons this was really a shock.

One thing for sure was that if we didn’t pull this round and quick then we could forget the play offs, indeed we could forget thoughts of the Heineken Cup next season.  I was depressed.

So, who caught the eye?

Four people caught the eye getting over 82% of all votes between them.  In third place were the half back pairing of Ryan Powell and Stephen Myler with 10% each.

In second place with over 29% was the ever green Bruce Reihana – or should that be the ever Green Black and Gold Bruce Reihana.  Very little I can add to what I have said but we as a club will miss him when he finally does move on.

The winner and to be fair the only person I really remember from the game was Mark Easter.  Mark seemed to be everywhere.  He went forward – a strange thing for a forward that day.  He tackled – something that seems to be going out of fashion at Saints – and he played with real heart.  That Mark has not had many chances since Roger came into town but he has never to my knowledge let us down.

Finally thanks to the 68 people who took the effort to vote and as ever to Claire (Red Hat Photography) for the wonderful pictures.

Players Used

So far this season we have used 36 different players.  I do notice however that after 24 games we still have 2 players who have only missed two starts.  This isn’t really rotation and could be a key reason for the sub standard performances we are now seeing.

Trouble is, Tim, I think we may all be trying to put those "dark days" behind us in the run up to the game at the weekend. However, it shouldn't detract from the effort you put in and, yes, I agree with the overall result of the poll - Bunny was bouncing that day!

Only one more dark weekend to go and then we can start some uplifting matches - just in time for the weekend.
