Guess The Attendance & matchday thread - Bedford Cup Match

By Almo
January 29 2019

Two home matches is successive weeks - it's wearing me out! At the last match against Ealing the crowd as well as the team performance in the dying minutes, were disappointing. The official attendance of 1490 was below even the most pessimistic guess, which could possibly say something about the demeanor of this messageboard these days. Closest was Albert, WPL and Hornchurch, in that order and all three are now included in the top three scores in the table.

Next Sunday's encounter is against Bedford and is a Cup Match. The initial rounds of the cup were a very useful "belated pre-season" for our new recruits, I suspect that this match could be used to maximise the availability of our non-England qualified player selections later in February. If so we will see 22 EQ players selected.

As ever I get the honour of first guess, so I will go with 1066 (which reminds me of something). Oh yes, it was the -900th anniversary of Bobby Moore, Knobby et al winning the roundball world cup at Hastings.

Please post your more considered guesses below on this thread.

TABLE
Albert/ Hornchurch 6 points
yeldor  4.5 points
WPL/Madtyke 4 points
LCSF/WW 3 points
opus 2.5 points
Sidestep/yorkie ba/John R 2 points
almo/Tower/Bobba 1 point

Eddie Jones has now set the standard to which we must perform!

For once weather not too windy, 17 kph SW wind. Temp about 4 deg but feeling about 1 deg unless you are sheltered from the wind in the South Stand.

Point of order. I was told that many folk found their tickets didn't work and were waved in by the stewards. Crowd wasn't great but there were definitely more than 365. Void game?

Definitely more than 365 there today, Albert, I would have thought that, using their normal counting method about 1060 to 1070 was about right?
However, whatever number goes on the official Yorkshire Carnegie match report will be the basis of the points allocated. Perhaps a bad rub of the green but it is this type of uncertainty that maintains the excitement in this pulsating, stimulating and "expect the unexpected" competition!!!!

Expanding on from the attendance, what a strong performance the team put in today. Great aggressive defence display, restricting a team that scored 53 points last week to two consolation tries. Final score 38 - 14.

We also showed clinical finishing, leading 26 - 0 at half-time, then determination and good game management in the second half. The last 10 minutes were spent in the Bedford 22 meaning they had no chance of a comeback. The highly physical game was won by Carnegie with Bedford's frustration in the second half leading to handbags between old boy Jarad Williams and (who else?) Dan Temm.

The match report:

Definitely an improvement over the last match report which had the score reversed!

Oh dear! Winging about the attendance. If it was to do with how far we have fallen, then yes, a valid argument! That said, I did ask Almo to exercise his fingers and toes to go count the actual attendance. Don't know why, but he refused!

Highlights from the offie:

Nice watching but does not do justice to the way we controlled the match by aggressive tackling and good tactical kicking.
