So far so good.?

No tries yet

Yorkshire Carnegie has played two games in the Championship Cup. Both have resulted in heavy defeats and the team has failed to score any points in either game. So the question is: Have we seen a glimpse of the future? Is this the way the season is going to be - a string of beatings week after week?

I would like to say that we will get better. We will get better. There I have said it. However I feel that all the other teams in the division will also get better. They have all benefitted from a pre-season which we have not. The cup is our pre-season. Having said this then only an ultra optimist would have expected us to win our first two games. I thought that we would lose heavily and we did.

We did not get any bad injuries ( always a possibility when you have not had a pre-season) and the second match showed that we are getting more competitive. Will we see further improvement at the RAG this weekend? It is too early to expect a win but I would hope that we at least score.

Our season is going to come down to four fixtures. Ampthill and Hartpury, home and away. Those are the games that we need to win if we are to survive in the Championship. The first of these key fixtures is less than three weeks away at Ampthill with a trip to Hartpury just four weeks later. Both sides have lost their first two cup games albeit scoring in each game. The match at Ampthill will be only the second league fixture and I do not expect us to get anything from the game against Bedford the week before.

Although we appear to be making progress I am reserving judgement on the "so far so good" issue until after the trip to Ampthill. A win there would be a good indicator of the squad's progress.

Good article...small point the game against Bedford is at Headingley.

Completely agree about those 4 games being key and the Ampthill one being earlier than I would like.

I always think though this division takes a few games to settle down, who knows someone else may be brought into the mix.

There is a concern for me about the lack of a score so far, I'll take a scrappy try on Friday just to get rid of that from round our neck

Lack of injuries is good yes.
The fact they haven't managed to muster a single point is a concern.
That needs to change fast.
That being said the team will likely go down this season.
It would be a minor miracle if it they stay up.

Agreed on the miracle needed. That and hopefully another team is very poor.

We are only part time, presumably training two days a week instead of 4 or 5. Thus progress is going to be slower than in previous seasons when we were full time.

Its going to be a very long season.

So is this because of the RWC or the predicament the club is in?

Points have now been scored.

It's good to read in the RP that "Yorkshire never threw in the towel, though, and the moment they craved arrived in the 55th minute when, after Tom Varndell had gone close and Zach Kerr fumbled as space opened up, Jake Brady took a lineout and Larvin crashed over"!

It's a start! Onwards and upwards!

Sign of the times though that there is no match report on the official website from Friday and the score from week before showing carnegie 0 Pirates 28.

I noticed that too. I just hope that all the (part-time) effort is concentrated on the rugby side of things. Though I have pointed out (probably means criticised) the lack of communication, if it means that effort has been focussed on the uphill task of getting a competitive team then I suppose a team not losing will get more punters than a losing team with the best social skills ever.

However, if you are in a career of professional sport, which relies on spectators, then surely twitter, facebook and good old web pages are part of the job?

The trouble is that there are those that do not appreciate what we had, let alone what we have.(Sm117)
