Sometimes I actually wonder why I post on the message boards, but after over 2000 posts I seem to be hooked. I have gone from the serious contribution to the down right stupid. I have been praised and sometimes ridiculed, and all for posting my opinion (IMHO).
I cannot remember actually calling for a player to be sacked, but do remember calling one player “sick note” as I never saw him complete a game. I think some players are outstanding whilst others think that they are poor.
So why do some take it on themselves to actually call others stupid when they express an opinion? Is it because posts often are rushed and the poster has not thought about the phrases and content before pressing the button? Is it like sending an e mail to a colleague at work they you get a call from them to express their disappointment about the way it has come across?
Over the past years I have met many of the posters on the forum. I can honestly say that they are the ones that do not berate you for the posts. I believe that these are the ones that understand you because they have shared a beer or a conversation face to face and have understood where you come from. I shared a car with Gillies for England a few years ago whilst going to Bath, and can truly say I understood him, whilst others on here did not. I exchange pleasantries with Gibbbo at every match although I understand he has moved up in the world next season. But why have these two prolific posters given up?
It’s because the fun and banter has slowly been eroded because of peoples desire to have their opinion as the only one that is accurate. We are all arm chair warrior managers, but suspect non of us could even match any of our previous DOR,s. So come on people lighten up!!
Perhaps the most risky option is to post on another clubs pages. I can remember putting my warrior gif on Newcastle’s site. In those days nobody seemed to even use a smilie on their site. I almost got banned from the site for its overuse. Mind I did post on every topic on the page that bought back dead topics. There has been recent discussion on the Pirates site about the comments of Richard Hill that necessitated club statements. And of course the recent discussion about Neil Best’s article about the championship. Neither of which I could see anything wrong with. But the recipient club supporter saw them both as derogatory to them.
I actually believe that all supporters from the clubs want to hear the views of others but at times we all need to take a chill pill and not read too much into what we THINK posters are saying.

One of the best things about sport is that it provokes lots of discussion and lots of opinions. Everyone has a right to their own opinion providing it is expressed in a respectful manner.
Let's bring the fun back.
I really enjoy seeing what people's opinions are on the various topics and I hope you will enjoy mine, although I won't be offended if you disagree.
This is why it is recommended that Newbies lurk for a while in order to gauge the personalities of posters and then read posts in the appropriate 'Voice'.
Message Boards/Bulletin Boards in their current form have been around since the 1970s, but many of the protocols around 'text' communications were established in the early days of the telegraph and Morse code (where they obviously encountered the same problems of miscommunication).
The first Emoticon was in fact documented in 1857 in the National Telegraphic Review and Operators Guide

but I think he just wanted a good time and a bit of fun. we still swap texts every now and again following a disaster in the world!

I fully agree with your post drifter. I hope this season will see the return of the balanced friendly message board that I joined in 2005.... and perhaps even the return of G4E ?
