Call Up Fozzy!

With the news that Colin Charvis and Martin Williams are out of the opening 6 Nations clash we take a look at the options available to Wales coach Mike Ruddock.

Colin Charvis and Martyn Williams are out of Wales' opening Six Nations match against England.

Vice-captain Charvis needs a further two weeks' treatment on an ankle injury and Williams is struggling to recover from a neck injury.

The injuries leave Wales short of an experienced open-side flanker for the 5 February match with England in Cardiff.

What are the options available to Wales coach Mike Ruddock:

Richie Pugh - Mike Ruddock says of him "Richie has been outstanding for the Ospreys and Wales U21s," said Ruddock., He gained national squad experience on the summer tour of Argentina and South Africa."

For me his form has gone a little off and he is still very young, I think he might get overawed by the occasion, still a very talented player and will pull on the Wales jersey many times.

Dafydd Jones – Current holder of the blind side jersey and put in some consistent performances in the Autumn, has played at 6&8 for Wales so why not 7?

Well for me I think he may not be quick enough to fill the 7 berth, I’d leave him at 6.

Robin Sowden-Taylor – Has only just broken into the Blues 1st team squad, leave him settle in there, the experience of training with the Wales camp will do him the world of good.

Jason Forster – "Fozzy" is the livewire captain of the Dragons, he inspires the forwards there to play with a bit of fire and steel, in his one cap for Wales he didn’t let anyone down but showed he isn’t the quickest of 7s and at 33 is time on his side?

Zippy Verdict

Well I almost talked myself out of all the options at 7, who would I go for? The title of the story gives it away, go for "Fozzy" an unfashionable, uncompromising, hard player with the experience to answer a Wales SOS call and do a good job, the others will have their day.
