Nicky Robinson Late Call

Nick Robinson

Cardiff Blues outside half, Nicky Robinson has been called into Mike Ruddock’s squad for Saturdays 6 Nations opener against England.

Robinson takes the bench spot of utility back Ceri Sweeney, who has pulled out with a groin injury.

This is the latest blow for Wales, who are currently suffering a major injury crisis ahead of their 6 Nations defence. Sweeny was one of few centres left in Wales, and his loss will force Ruddock to look elsewhere, Jamie Robinson, Tal Selly and Dafydd James for cover.

It’s not known how serious the injury is, but it’s thought he will be available for at least part of the tournemant.

As for Robinson, he is only just returning from injury, with his last appearance against the Scarlets last year. His last Welsh match was against Fiji in which he was poor, but eventually dropped a winning goal in what was otherwise a very dull match.

M Davies, G Jenkins, Delve, Popham, Cooper, N Robinson, Byrne.
