Excellent home win for the Bees over the Chiefs after falling behind to an early Tony Yapp penalty goal. The Bees went in front when prop Casey Dunning went in for his first try for the club and although Jon Higgins missed the conversion he added a penalty goal on 18 minutes to make it 8-3.

Left wing Kyle Palm got the second home try on 25 minutes and this time Higgins converted to make it 15-3 which was the way it stayed till the break.

They went further ahead three minutes into the second half when Fijian back row man Akapusi Qera went over to make it 20-3. The Chiefs now staged a comeback to narrow the gap to 20-17 after 67 minutes with tries form centre Aliafatu Fatialofa and wing Jason Luff, both converted by Yapp.

Back came the Bees and Higgins put over a penalty goal to stem the Chiefs scoring. They got two tries in injury time to wrap up the win and the four try bonus point as prop Terry Sigley and right wing Dave Knight touched down.

The Chiefs case was not helped having three players sent to the sin bin and one sent off. .

Coventry 15 (Tries: Rheeders (5), Walls (70), W Johnson (79).  

Earth Titans 22 (Tries: Penalty try (4), McComish (20), Jacobsz (47). Cons: Whitehead 2. Pen: Steenson (80).

Two unbeaten sides met at the Butts Arena and it was the Yorkshire who kept their unbeaten start intact.

They were in front in just the fourth minute when the referee awarded them a penalty try which Mike Whitehead converted and the home side lost prop Niall Treston to the sin bin for foul play. A minute later and the home side were level with second row Hendry Rheeders going in for a try and Ben Russell could not add the extras.

On 20 minutes the visitors got a second try with replacement flanker Michael McComish going in and this time Whitehead was off target and they took the 12-5 lead into half time.

Seven minutes into the second half and the Titans went further ahead with No 8 Stephanus Jacobsz going over the home line and Whitehead converting for 19-5.

Scrum half Mike Walls got a second home try and when New Player coach Will Johnson touched down they were just four points behind but time was against them.

The Titans settled the match when replacement fly half Gareth Steenson put over an injury time penalty goal.

Bedford Blues 37 (Tries: Kettle (19), Lewis (25), Harding (44), Broadfoot (55). Cons: Broadfoot 4. Pens: Broadfoot 3 (39, 47, 77).

Didn’t see this one coming and I am not many of you did. At the break the Blues were 17-13 ahead after falling behind to an 11^th minute try from the home right wing Nathan Bressington which Ollie Thomas converted. The Blues then got a couple of tries to move 14-7 ahead with flanker Adam Kettle and centre Emyr Lewis touching down and Ross Broadfoot converting. Before the break Thomas and Broadfoot traded penalty goals.

In the second half the visitors went into a 27-13 lead with the other flanker Sasha Harding going over and Broadfoot converting before putting over another penalty goal.

Thomas pulled three points back for the home side but when Broadfoot went over for a try in the 55^th minute which he converted they looked out of sight at 34-16.

Moseley then turned the game on its head with four converted tries in a 15 minute spell to lead 44-34 including a second try for Bressington whilst Thomas converted them all including one of his own.

The Blues did manage to pinch a losing bonus point when Broadfoot put over a late penalty goal.   .     

Newbury 10 (Try: Gibson (69). Con: Walsh. Pen: Walsh (21). 

Leeds Tykes 24 (Tries: Hinton (8), Schusterman (48). Con: Hinton. Pens: Hinton 4 (12, 14, 19, 32).

The Tykes put last week’s loss at home to London Welsh behind them and picked up a win at Newbury who have lost both their opening games in National One.

They got off to a good start and were 16-0 ahead after 19 minutes with full back Leigh Hinton doing all the damage He went over for a try on eight minutes which he converted and then put over three penalty goals. Tim Walsh got the home side off the mark on 21 minutes but before half time Hinton put over a fourth penalty goal.

Eight mints into the second half and Argentine flanker Martin Schusterman made it two in two and the Tykes were 24-3 ahead.

The home side did manage to cross the Leeds line when replacement Liam Gibson went over and Walsh converted but the win was the visitors. 

Otley 37 (Tries: Maifea 2 (16, 37), D Smith 2 (7, 50), Parsons (41). Cons: Binns 3.Pens: Binns 2 (10, 47).  

Nottingham 27 (Tries: Meek 2 (40, 63), Wilkes (58), Molenaar (70). Cons: Barlow, Stenhouse. Pen: Barlow (1).

Otley bounced back from last week’s loss at the Cornish Pirates with this home win over Nottingham who have now lost both their opening matches.

Otley built up a 20-8 half time lead with a brace from No 8 Maifea Maifea and left wing Danny Smith, both summer recruits. And Simon Binns added five points with the boot.

For the visitors replacement wing Tyson Meek went in late in the half for a try after Tom Barlow had given the visitors the lead in the opening minute.

The match was all but over after 10 minutes of the second half as Otley went into a 37-9 lead as Smith completed a double and another new boy right wing Stephen Parsons went over whilst Binns converted both and slotted over a penalty goal.

Nottingham did stage a mini comeback with three tries in the final 22 minutes including a second from Meek whilst centre Tim Molenaar and flanker Dave Wilkes also crossed the home try line.

Otley lost Maifea to a second yellow on 67 minutes but had done the damage in that 10 minute spell at the start of the half.

Plymouth Albion 20 (Tries: Penalty try (18), Rice (56). Con: Neethling 2. Pens: Neethling 2 (57, 80). 

London Welsh 12 (Pens: Ulph 4 (15, 24, 29, 75).

Plymouth Albion made it two out of two as the Welsh lost their 100% record.

It was a tight match and at half time the Welsh were narrow leaders 9-7 thanks to three penalties form full back Sam Ulph. Albion were awarded a penalty by the referee on 18 minutes and Wihan Neethling converted.

Four minutes into the second half and Albion were in front thanks to a Neethling penalty goal. They went 17-9 ahead on 56 minutes when prop Martin Rice went in for a rare try ad Neethling converted. In the final few minutes the Welsh looked to have got at least a losing bonus point with Ulph putting over a penalty goal but Neethling put paid to that late on with his second penalty of the afternoon.

Sedgley Park 6 (Pens: Jones 2 (14, 21). 

Doncaster 48 (Tries: Forster 2 (5, 44), Woodrow (27), Jones (47), Gross (73), D Cook (76). Cons: Woodrow 3, Boden 2. Pen: Woodrow (18).

Doncaster made it back to back wins with this impressive away success at Sedgley Park running in seven tries.

They were ahead after just five minutes when new captain and flanker Jason Forster followed up his opening day double with another try and Mark Woodrow converted for 7-0. Phil Jones and Woodrow traded penalty goals to make it 10-6 after 21 minutes but before the half hour mark Woodrow had gone over for the second Doncaster try and a 15-6 lead which they took into the half time break.

That man Foster popped up again four minutes into the half to complete a double and make it 20-6.

Scrum half Ben Jones and a Forster hat trick try saw the visitors move well clear at 34-6 after 53 minutes and the four try bonus point in the bag.

They scored two late tries through their second rows Luke Gross and Dan Cook to wrap up an excellent win.

Waterloo 19 (Try: Van Deventer (51). Con: Nutt. Pens: Nutt 4 (37, 40, 49, 74). 

Cornish Pirates 16 (Try: Cattle (29). Con: Di Bernardo. Pens: Di Bernardo 3 (33, 57, 73).

Another surprise result as Waterloo bounce back from a heavy home defeat last week to beat the Cornish Pirates who were 39-0 winners on the opening weekend.

It took 29 minutes for the deadlock to be broken as Pirates skipper and scrum half Gavin Cattle went over and Alberto Di Bernardo slotted over the conversion. Three minutes later he added a penalty goal and the Pirates were 10-0 ahead.

Waterloo need to score next and did with Stephen Nutt putting over a couple of penalty goals before half time to send the homes side in just four points down.

They were back within a point nine minutes into the second half with a third Nutt penalty goal. 11 minutes into the second half and they took the lead with left wing Jay Van Deventer going in for a try and Nutt converted for 16-10.

DI Bernardo kicked a couple of penalty goals to level the match up after 73 minutes but Nutt had the final say with a penalty goal soon after to secure that all important first win.
