“Knock out rugby is not about playing well, it’s about getting the result. You can play well and loose and then you are out of the competition. I’m happy with the win, that’s what we came here for.

Although our pack dominated completely, our kicking out of hand was horrendous and our decision making wasn’t good. We just threw one try after another away, but it was a very cold night and that doesn’t help.

The conditions were very difficult and some individuals had a bad 80 minutes of rugby, which they’ve got out of their systems. Cup rugby is not about playing brilliant rugby; cup rugby is about making sure you get through to the next round.

We knew this was going to be a tricky one because we’ve got everything to loose. We came down for Friday evening not having as much time to prepare and Moseley were really up for this game. They really got stuck in but I don’t think they ever looked like beating us.

But we didn’t help ourselves, we had five penalties that should have found touch and they didn’t. But at the end of the day cup rugby is about winning and not the performance, league rugby is different.

Moseley played some good rugby and struck the ball well, they have got a nice back line going. Their half backs were outstanding and the full back is a very good player. They’ve got a lot to offer and they’ll do well when they come up to National one.

Shrek (Hendre Fourie) had another outstanding game and he’s my player of the year so far and I don’t put one player above any other, anywhere I go. But consistently he’s been the best player for Rotherham so far this year!

He’s turned games for us and he’s been critical to our performances so far this year. It’s the way he carries ball, the way he makes the hard yards for the team and the way he makes the yards across the gain line. It takes the pressure off guys like Jannie and Chris.

This competition is important to us, it’s important to for the club, it’s important for the sponsors, it’s important for where the whole club wants to go to in terms of pride and tradition and we want to go to Twickenham again.

We hope for a home draw in the next round because our crowd is very important to us. I’ve been all over the world but I’ve never seen such passionate people about their team.”

“It was quite a tight game and we made too many rash decisions, we made too many errors on some of our pick and goes and we allowed them back into the game. Overall though we dominated their pack, unfortunately at times they were coming in from the side and the referee didn’t spot that.

Although it was cold out there and that makes it difficult, it’s not the coldest conditions I’ve played in. In South Africa I’ve actually played in the snow! So it wasn’t too bad for me, but I think some of the other boys struggled a bit at times out there.

This competition is very important to the boys, because if we are being realistic we aren’t going to catch Harlequins in the league; they are going from strength to strength. But we feel this tournament is a tournament we can win and we want to go as far as we possibly can.

If we can reach the final at Twickenham I think it will be one of the greatest experiences I will have in my career! I think it will be my only chance in life to play at Twickenham – I don’t think I’ll make the Springbok side in the next four years – and if we make it, it will be one of those moments that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

I’m loving my time in Rotherham, the style of play really suits my game and the supporters are just fantastic, it’s awesome here!”
