As Nick Baxter plans to retire at the end of the season, Bees boss Phil Maynard has urged the record try scorer to not hang up the boots yet.

This season Maynard has been impressed with Bacco and believes the lightning-quick wing is playing the best rugby of his career and has already scored seven tries in the nine games he has played in so far and a total of 135 league tries.

However, despite these achievements, the wine merchant by week, rugby player by weekend, Baxter has announced his desire to move away from rugby at then end of this season. That is unless Maynard gets his way.

“I keep hearing that Nick is telling people that this is his last season but I don’t know why is saying that - he is playing the best rugby of his career” Maynard told local press.

“He may have turned 30 but his all-round game is better than ever and I plan to keep on telling him that until he changes his mind.

“We’ve managed to change Nick’s game since he has been here and he is no longer just an out-and-out try scorer. He also plays a crucial part ion out phase-building and overall play”.

“There was a time when people questioned his defensive qualities, but no more. We want him to stay and I like to think he will.”
