Pertemps Bees have made submitted a formal complaint to Rotherham about the injuries sustained by prop Matt Long during last Saturday's National League One game at Clifton Lane. Long required 35 stitches in a deep gash to his forehead which he sustained as the players broke from a ruck early in the second half.
Phil Maynard, Pertemps Bees' director of rugby, said: "It was a very nasty injury and we believe that it was caused deliberately.
"We have made an official complaint to Rotherham and they have now agreed to investigate. They have promised to look at the match video and keep us informed of any action they might take against the offending player.
"We will await the outcome of Rotherham's internal investigation before we decide whether we need to take the matter further."
Long, a former Moseley and Newcastle player, is expected to be out of action for at least a month which leaves Pertemps Bees' short of experienced front row cover for the Powergen Cup game against Orrell at Sharmans Cross Road on Saturday November 6 (2pm).
Martin O'Keefe, who came on as a replacement at Rotherham, and Jim Thorp are expected to start against Rotherham with Rob Sigley in line for his first involvement in a competitive game this season as a replacement. Sigley played in the recent midweek games against Oxford University and Cambridge University and spent must of last season on loan with National Two side Moseley.
Richard Culley could be recalled from a loan spell with Stourbridge for the next league game against Nottingham on November 13 but he is cup-tied this weekend having already played for Stourbridge in the Powergen Cup this season.
Number eight Jim Jenner is another likely absentee against Orrell because of a neck injury which he sustained in the win against Plymouth Albion and which prevented him from playing at Rotherham.
