Firstly a big thanks to West Bridgford for their magnificent hospitality, the Bees were made very welcome with even a pudding after the game
Firstly a big thanks to West Bridgford for their magnificent hospitality, the Bees were made very welcome with even a pudding after the game, this will mean some extra training will be required for a few of the forwards this week.
On much better than surface than the one at Derby last week the Bees really buzzed. Right from the kick-off the pattern was set when the Bees forwards with a pulverising maul followed by a some powerful pick and go moved the ball from their own 22m's into the West Bridgford 22m. The forwards with returning tighthead prop Liam were simply to powerful and technically competent for the West's 8. This is a huge credit to the lads who do not normally get a start and had the opportunity to play 80mins. today, forwards win games, so all credit to:
Elliot: pack leader, chief organiser and lead vocalist!
Ethan: a lad who normally doesn't get 80 mins. but had his best game in Bees colours
Liam: anchored the scrum securely and with Ryan packing down behind him destroyed the West scrum platform
Ryan: big man, big performance, well done!
Adam: aggressive ball in hand with some first rate tackling, not bad for a Blues fan
Ben: supreme in the lineout and best all round game this season
Nigel: did what he done all season, in their faces in tackle and with ball in hand, also customary 10 mins rest at refs. insistence
Los: absolutely destroyed the West halfbacks, allowed them no time and space to play, some lovely linking and jinking with ball in hand, believe me this kid is the real deal, outstanding performance
Given the platform created tries came with some lovely typical movement, support and interlining back and forward play:
Rich x4
Nigel x2
Loz
Steve
Sam
and last but not least a length of the field effort from Woody.
Of the 10 tries scored the backs managed to convert 1, despite taking turns the roll of dishonour included Sam x3, Bruce x3, Andy (particularly poor effort), Rich (even worse) and finally the one we did get went in off the post!
Performance: 9 out of 10, great platform, great use of ball, good result.
Mars bar moment:
Has to be Ryan's tackle on West poor No.10 , in an attempt to take a quick penalty he ran straight into Ryan who "jumped" on him, all the watching spectators expected a cartoon type flat No.10 to emerge, luckily the lad was not injured.
Special mention also for Dave, who despite the temptation of a nearby small brook to play in managed to stay and watch the game this week!
